Default Questions About Projectors

I am planning on getting a projector in the near future and have a few questions. Any suggestions or warnings as far as to brands/models? I will be setting it up in a smallish room and it will be mounted roughly 10'-11' from the screen. Are there any websites where I can get a rough idea as to screensize? Also any online sources that have similar/lower prices than Amazon and are just as reliable?

I forget the website that has the size of feet rules of the room. But I bought my projector from a website called http://projectionguys.com/

They have bundles, that include projector screen, projector mount, cables, and the projector. I have a panasonic, and i love it. I heard epsons are a good projector, sony, but alil pricey. good luck, having a projector is deff worth the money.

If you get a dlp, make sure the color wheel is a very good..some people are prone to seizure with dlps as oppoed to lcds. Also its a big advantage to have vertical and horizontal lens shift. Finally get a home entertainment one that does 16:9 and not a business one

I think the one I am looking at is a DLP, so that's something I'll have to look into.

Default Basics

Obviously get one with HDMI 1.4 inputs if you think you might go the 3D route within the next several years. Check the lumen levels, keeping in mind the level of ambient light in your room (ambient light can wash out colors, but too many lumens can look harsh). Try to get a quiet projector so you hear the movie and not the fans.

I think projectorpeople.com has the online throw distance/brightness/screen size calculator.

I went w/ the Panasonic AE3000U last year (before the 4k was available) and I couldn't be happier.

I purchased the Epson 8100 back in late or Early November and I am very happy with it. My throw distance is somewhere around 11.5 feet and it easily fills my 92" screen with approximately another 18" to spare I would say. You will never regret getting a projector for your home theater.

I can add that I have a Sanyo PLV-Z60 projector that is 13.5' away on a 92" screen, and the picture looks amazing, and I would say I have at least a couple more feet to spare with the throw distance as well. If you can properly set-up the conditions/parameters necessary in your room, a projector is a no-brainer IMO.

I purchased the Panasonic AE4000U in December from projecotrpeople.com and have been very pleased with the 1080p resolution as well as the quietness of the fans in this unit. Mine is roughly 12' from the screen and the picture is 119". I had a Epson before that and the fans were quite a bit louder.

Good luck!

ProjectorCentral typically has tools you can use to select a projector and see of the throw is good for your situation. Of course the playing field is wide open in terms of projector technologies, price range, performances, etc.

You did not state what the environment is and what you expect to get out of a viewing performance.
