I've had many threads in this forum section but I feel that most of my questions are yet to be answered. My question today is with projectors. If I purchase a 720p or 1080p projector does it come with a drive to insert a disc? Or am I going to need a BD player just for the projector? And what is an appropriate price range for a purchase like this? What will I need if I make this purchase?? Thanks guys

You'll need a Blu-ray player also, but you can use the same Blu-ray player you're using with your current T.V. (if it's in the same room, or close to it) just run an HDMI splitter if your Blu-ray player doesn't have more than one HDMI output..........
As far as "how much it will all cost" My projector is just a 720p model, and was purchased awhile ago for $600, and I made the screen for $75 or so.... There is a thread around here where a 1080p epson can be had for $700 or so from Best Buy, if you're lucky enough to find one...... It's a whole new experience when it comes to watching films on the "Big" screen...... good luck! |

no, a projector is like a TV, meant to display an image. You will need an external tuner (if you want to watch TV) and a disk player (i.e. BD)
you will also need a screen (to project an image on) as for price it is alll over the place, as well as quality. You can find cheap data projectors meant for presentations under 1000$ and fancy ones that are semi pro in the tends of thousand. if it is for home/HT then it is also good to buy a ceiling mount and install it correctly which would mean that the cables to the receiver will need to be long. |

You can build a DIY projector or look for second hand one with new bulb most owners do sale them on with new lamps.
Lamps various in price for each projector and the price is £$ hundred plus going upwards so put a little piggybank lamp saving aside because in a year to two years you’ll need to buy a new lamp. If you run it several times of each day of the week expect to replace it within half a year or so. Use a regular TV for casual viewing and the video projector for showings once a week with family/friends. Harkness Hall screens as are cheaper than other names like SMX and Stewart screens which are way overpriced! Harkness Hall screens http://www.harkness-screens.com/ You can compromise with bed sheet stretched out over timbre frame but you’ll only see the threading in the sheet on bright images also it’s a rather dull image but useful for temporary proposes until you can afford micro perforated screen to placed up along with the matching LCR and subs behind the screen. With the speakers placed behind the screen, rather than looking at tiny flat screen and yes they are far too small! The image Big Image and sound becomes one whole mass experience like that of the cinema! The last thing you want to see is the speakers and most home uses even make the mistake of sticking them in front of the screen therefore, the illusion is diminished. The image or speakers must be within just halfway up of the screen to match images or performers voices. Too low to the floor and you’ll be looking downwards too high up and up and you’ll be looking upwards! A simple platform placed behind with the LCR speakers standing on it and maybe the sub as well. Some cinemas stand the sub at the same height of the LCR deepening the size of cinema others on the floor beneath the centre channel. Behind the screen of a typical digital screen cinema, in this case one of 9 at the Empire Leicester Square, London. I took these pictures around October 2nd this year. The space behind this screen is very tight! The depth is an average 28 to 30” so the home can easily accommodate the space for smaller speakers but if the sub depth is bigger then it needs to be made for that depth. The back of the wall is absorbed the thickness is around 1 to 1.5”. The masking motor is located below close to the floor. The farming is metal thou that would set you back a few bob, so timber framing is cheaper means. Last edited by JBL4645; 12-27-2009 at 11:50 PM. |

The digital screens use Barco digital projectors a bit out of your price range.
The masking motor I forget which screen this was? Most of them look the same expect for number of seating. A little simple light theme can make the screen look nice. I forget which screen this was? Most of them look the same expect for number of seating. The screen size varied from screen to screen in the smaller digital cinemas. I forget to take my tape measure that day. I’d guess for one was no more than 8 to 9 feet wide by the average size of the JBL speakers behind it and there spacing behind the screen. There it is that’s a cinema!
