play.com are stating digitally remastered....

It'd be nice enough it they give us both open-matte and theatrically cropped, plus a handful of extras, and for cripes-sakes, make it ALL-REGION!

Depends on whoever wants to obtain the rights from French company StudioCanal, the main rights holder, to distribute the title in the USA. Lionsgate did The Ladykillers, another StudioCanal title so they might be the best bet.

I just read the good doctor's review, but didn't notice any statement regarding whether or not this SE is the same as the previous disc as far as encode.
I'm assuming it is.
maybe the good doctor could kindly shed some light on this.

Sounds like it is the same transfer. I have the original so i don't see any need to upgrade

Hello,

I was not sent a screener for the initial release (though I actually had one and viewed it when the film was released), but I believe the motivator for the SE was the optional subtitles, not a new transfer.

I like how the film looks in 1080p. It is not perfect but it looks good.

The special edition has a 1hr documentary which is not on the older release.
