I'm looking forward to this. The books were fairly decent (Faith of the Fallen being the best).

I would have to say that overall the best book was the first one as it seemed to set the mold for the next books. Also I thought that it had the most indepth story and character development. My second favorite is Temple of the Winds.

I met Terry and his wife earlier this year in Las Vegas. We were at private racetrack for adrenaline junkies. I had no idea who the guy was. I thought he was a mechanic until he got some of his racing equipment out of his Bentley. I talked with him and his wife and he said what he did. Really nice guy. I hope these work out for him. His biggest concern was that these shows have to have some sort of an ending and Terry had to go in and figure out some sort close to each episode. He didnt like the idea since it was different from the books, but he said they made it work.

Thats very cool you were able to meet him!

I could see that he would have conflicting views as really a TV show is written differently than how books are. Though what I like the most about this adaptation is that the writer has personal involvement in the show as an Executive Producer, so whatever goes on the screen has been approved by him.

Well, depending on your cable service, search your TV Guide option for Saturday and Sunday night for the show titled:

Legend of the Seeker

Woo hoo! The wife and I are looking forward to these. Not sure if they'll be able to pull it off. I have a feeling they'll skip a lot of the violence (especially in later scenes) and take away a lot of the tension from the story.

We'll see.

I'm worried that the beginning of the story seems fairly straight forward and could seem a bit too "dungeons and dragons" for those just looking at the first few episodes. Things don't really take off till the middle - but will that be too late for the casual viewer?

Hoping it's good. (Although, I worry about the 5pm Sat. timeslot. It's up against college football - a demographic I'd think they'd be aiming for.) This would have been great for a Sat. evening or Sun. evening show. Nobody is watching a series at 5pm. I think they missed their mark on this one.

Either way, I'll be watching this tonight (after the wife gets home from work - she'd kill me if I watched it without her.) It will be hard not to peek.

Exactly! The thing is - there is no reason they could not have named it the "Sword of Truth Series" - just like the book. Anyone scrolling through their cable guide wouldn't even know that "Legend of the Seeker" was from SoT series.

I think they've mishandled this from the beginning. The 5pm slot during college football is another major goof.

What a shame.

(Actually, every time fanboys talked about it on the forum, thought they were referring to that syndie modern-Zorro series from the 80's...Didn't think anybody remembered that one.)

Anyone else a bit underwhelmed by the show?

In fact, I have just a couple of MAJOR gripes.

No Widescreen?!!! WTF! - I watched this on my hi-def channel and is was not in widescreen and not in hi-def (at least not the calibur I'm used to from big production programs.) Why film in New Zealand and not use widescreen?!

Richard - since when was Richard a punky, drama queen with nothing motivating him but vengeance?

Effects - were "O.K." I would have rathered them kept the Gar more in the dark. Also, I thought they did a HORRIBLE job explaining the Blood Flies.

Story Structure -
[Show spoiler] Kahlan says, "They will follow you because you're the Seeker". - No, no and NO! Nobody ever followed Richard because he was "The Seeker" - they followed him because he was Richard!
Also,
[Show spoiler] Richard uses the sword to kill tons of people - first: they poorly explained how he was able to do that, second: did they really need to do that in the pilot episode?! Sheesh!
And lastly,
[Show spoiler] I guess Darken Rahl can bring down the Border by a few catapult hits with magic.

I think, as fans of the book, we were able to fill in the gaps - I felt they tried to hard to move the plot too quickly for the pilot. They should have given people the benefit of the doubt that they could actually sit through a "story".

I hope they get rid of the 300 action shots. I didn't mind them too much for the pilot, but they showed a preview of next weeks episode and it had even more 300ish shots.

It was an average pilot. I hope they find there footing/style and slow down to tell the story. My wife and I sticking with it - but the Pilot was not the start I was hoping for.

Yeah, my brother was watching it and it wasn't widescreen on mine either.

So, is this a movie or series?

I was too a bit underwhelmed by the show especially considering how much I worked it up in my head. Though scenes from next time look very promising!

Also it was not widescreen because it wasn't filmed in HD but shown on a HD channel.

Richard has suppose to be this young kid that grows up in the first book significantly.

Also, people do pledge allegiance to The Seeker...I won't go into too much detail due to the significance spoilerage that will occur.

I like the 300 action shots as it reminds me how it happened in the books. Remember whenever there was a battle scene with him or Kahlan how 'time seems to slow down' and how Terry Goodkind illustrated with blade strike he made?

I agree that they need to do a better job with gap filling, but you need to keep in mind that they have to add a lot of 'action fluff' in order to keep the TV audience entertained. If you remember correctly the journey between the start and going through the Boundary is extremely boring to your average TV watcher if they are reading it in the book. They just had to 'spice' things up a bit.

But yes, I completely agree that I was underwhelmed with the pilot and the only place it can go is up!

It is a TV Miniseries that will hopefully become a full blow tv show telling all the books and not just the first one.
