Default A positive thread about MONSTER products!

I'll bet you clicked on this thread just to see what anyone could ever possibly say about Monster products and why anyone would have something positive to say and make it public to boot! LOL! Yeah, yeah, we all know about their outrageous pricing policies and that you can buy more for less when going with other brands. I'm not denying that here, but I do want to tell you about an experience I had last night.

About a year ago I purchased a Monster HDP2400 power centre, as I got a super deal at Future Shop. I picked it up for $199 when their regular price was $469. Power centres are outrageously expensive in Canada for some reason.

Anyway here's my story:

Last night I'm about to turn off my system and decide for some reason to do it manually. Well, I had a buildup of static and as soon as I touched the power button on my Oppo player that static discharged and I could actually see the small spark it gave off. Immediately every component in my system was shut down and when I looked at the Monster unit it only had the power button light on. It returned to normal operating status a few seconds later.

I was worried for a short while and thought the worst. I then decided to power up my equipment and voila.....everything was as if nothing had ever happened.

My Monster HDP2400 did it's job and came through with flying colours! So thank you Monster......you saved me several thousands of dollars.

Just thought I'd share that.

If that little unit did not say monster on the side, would it still have worked?

I'm sure it would have, but I only wanted to give credit for something that deserved credit.

The problem with Monster has never been about quality or whether their products work. They do, and most of their line is built very well. It is their marketing practices, as well as value that comes into question. That is the biggest problem people have with them. The fact that you can get the same quality item for a 1/10 of the price is a pretty big argument against going Monster.

Glad your equipment survived though.

I do reviews for Amazon and they sent up free Cables To Go HDMI cables and we did our reviews and someone, I guess working for Monster, comes in and gives all the reviews Did Not Help votes because we all talked about how for 8 bucks this worked as well as Monster products do. Yeah, Monster makes great stuff. But the 10x mark up is redonkulous.

I bought a Monster y-split subwoofer cable from eBay for $20! Great quality, better sound than my old, looks good, sturdy and well-build!

Don't regret it at all!

John, whats that power-thing that happened to your system? Anything I should be worried might happen to me or what?

The air in my apartment is very dry, and I assume that's because of the heating. Anyway, I guess I had some static buildup on my person and when I came to touch the Oppo DVD player it let off a visible spark. The Monster power unit shut the entire system off wihin a milllesecond and basically saved my system from perhaps being fried.

I would strongly recommend, based on my actual experience, that everyone get some form of power protection to safegaurd their investment. I'm sure glad I did!

Ill add a little more positive vibes for Monster....

A friend of mine picked up a used HDP2400 (like mine) because he liked how it looked and figured it couldn't hurt his system. Well, the dude he got it from screwed him over... the unit wouldn't turn on or power the rest of the units.

He emailed Monster, told them he purchased the unit a little while back, no longer had his original bill and his unit wsa acting up... They asked him to send it in and they would send him a new unit... free of charge. This is the 2nd person I who did this. So, no matter how much people diss Monster, I give respect where respuct is due. Do you know another brand who would do this? I don't.

As has been stated, they're not bad cables. The price is simply inexcusable. I would never buy one for that reason. I stand by Mono Price as well. They also have awesome customer service. Got a DOA cable. They told me to throw away the bad one and sent a new one out the next day, no questions asked.

I'm glad you had a good experience and didn't lose any equipment.
