Blu-ray Production, Hitch in Full Swing

Delayed though it may be, Sony WILL roll out Blu-ray discs. I personally saw hundreds of Hitch DVDs being put together, labeled and packaged.


Packing is fully underway, cranking out 25,000 discs per day

The company invited media members to visit its DADC optical disc manufacturing facility in Terra Haute, Ind., where 25,000 single-layer 25GB Blu-ray discs are made per day. All discs currently in production are single-layer 25GB, while dual-layer 50GB Blu-ray disc are expected to hit the market by mid- to late-October, according to Sony executive vice president/general manager Mike Mitchell.

Over $120 million were invested in the production of Blu-ray discs, said Sony Disc & Digital Solution president Dieter Daum.

I believe it. I nearly collided with Sony-made robots several times during my factory tour. I'm not sure exactly what the robots' functions are, but they seemed very busy.

Blu-ray players are expected to hit the market in late June.
