I was over at eproduct wars and the hddvd fanboys are crowing of the announcement of a cheap hd dvd player from Venturer. Dont know if this has been discussed, but Blu needs to counter, im tired of the hd fanboys having stuff to cheer about.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, word got out about a potential new HD DVD player, made in China and sold inexpensively, coming to market by the end of the year. On Thursday, word came that that player is on the way: Canadian company Venturer Electronics will release the player, called the SHD7000, to the North American market.

The SHD7000, the company said, will feature an HDMI connection which will upconvert standard DVD to “near-HD-picture quality,” as well as Ethernet connectivity, Dolby TrueHD sound, and CD playback. The new player joins various offerings from primary HD DVD backer Toshiba, as well as Onkyo’s DV-HD805, which is set for release this fall, and Microsoft’s Xbox drive as HD DVD-only players. LG has already released a dual-format player, and one is on the way from Samsung.

I am new to this board, and I am tru-blu. I own a ps3, and have 12 blu ray discs. I do not care for hd dvd and I hate eproductwars ever since the paramount announcement. Those hddvd fanboys "mikehd" are annoying as hell. This is real news. I just talked my parents into buying the bdp-s300, I just dont want this player to pick up steam. I wanted the blu community to discuss this news. Sorry again, i am no troll.

Venturer products are always the absolute worst you can buy at walmart, and thats saying a lot. Hopefully their terrible product quality will continue, and hopefully that will discourage anyone who buys them from sticking with hddvd.

Dont apologize, these boards are moving towards AVS territory. If they dont agree with you or dont believe you, they ridicule you, call you names and demand threads are locked. The A2 retails at about $349 here. So, it will very much depend on what this Canadian company means by being one of the lowest (among two?).

I hate to say it, but plenty of uninformed people who dont know anything about electronics buy cheap pieces of crap! And they deserve it when it breaks 3 months later. Only a few of us know who the good name brands are. I would probably think that about 95% percent of people buy due to price, no matter who makes it.

I dont see how a 199 player is going to win the war for them when they have had sub 299 players for a while now... So saving literally tens of dollars is gonna win it? Not to mention its a shit player that cant do full HD. Not to mention the PS3, which is always a big wild card.
