i don't think a realistic date is set from what i have read - but a few companies have introduced some compelling technology for home viewing that would incorporate the newer types of 3D glasses (polarized) and not use the older anaglyph (red/blue lenses)

i think Panasonic actually just proposed a Blu Ray 3D standard -

http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/ne...ay-Standard/p1

like anything else, we're going to have format issues and technology issues that will take awhile to sort out

not to mention the potential for early stage prohibitive consumer pricing and the need for studios to release the material in 3d as well

I know this is an old thread, but I have checked the Real D website and it looks as if they are planning something in the future. You can follow their website for updated info as it is released:http://www.reald.com/Content/in-the-home.aspx

I am very interested to know when a 3-D Movie and Image can be displayed thru a projector.

I just purchased the Sony BDP-S570 Blu-Ray Player.I have downloaded the 3-D firmware upgrade. So what is holding me(or anyone else)back from being able to view 3D Blu-Rays on a Screen of 84inches and larger.

I would hate buying a projector that doesen't produce a 3D Image(Even though so many say 3D compatible)
Just what do they consider 3D Compatible.(without having to purchase a 3D Television)

Everytime I study up on a 3D Projector I find in all reality its not capable of producing a 3D Image.
So needless to say I am confused as H3LL.

So if I purchased the Optoma HD66 could I connect it thru the HDMI Ports and cable on both components. Then if I added glasses and a movie. Will its video be in 720p resolution 3D.

Or is the HD66 not 3D ready.
Will it not be capable of producing a 3D Image out of the box(if there is a Blu Ray Player and the proper HDMI ver1.4 cables)
I have the Optoma HD66. I tried the BDP-S570 Bluray player and it will not work. In fact, currently no bluray players will work with the hd66. Not even if you can manually select 720p at 120hz in the bluray player's settings. You must have an Nvidia 3d vision ready pc with the Cyberlink PowerDVD software (3d Bluray Capable) or Arcsoft's TotalMedia Theatre With 3d Plugin.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-visi...uirements.html

PC Requirements
- 3d Ready Graphics Card
- Dual Core Processor
- Bluray Drive
- Atleast 2GB Memory
- Totalmedia theatre or PowerDVD with 3d plugin

Here is an email from a tru3d.com representative. I asked him what 3d bluray players will work with the Optoma HD66.

None. Its doesn't matter if the 3D Blu-Ray player supports manual selection of 720p 120Hz, your projector will not pass the proper HDCP validation required for 3D Blu-Ray playback unless you use a PC with 3D Blu-Ray playback software.

I hope this helps. I bought the HD66 and a 3d bluray player before I found out they wouldn't work together.

I am Very Sorry to hear about your purchases.

I do want to Sincerely Thank You for informing me about this
.Or I would have probably ended up in a situation like you are in.

Do you have any idea as to what your next step will be.Or do you know or think either the Sony or the Optoma will ever be in a Real 3D HT ?

And again,Thank You for all the help and information.

Sorry to get back to you so late. I would give it about 3 - 4 months from now and someone will release a projector that is compatible with 3d bluray players, or a converter for current 3d projectors.

Currently Optoma is working on a converter (Converts Bluray 3d player signals to a signal compatible with 3d projectors) they plan on releasing in Early 2011.

Here's what I found out about current 3d projectors.

If you want to watch 3d blurays on a 3d projector today, you must have a pc with a bluray drive and a decent graphics card with dvi or hdmi output.

$60 - Bluray Drive (Required for both options)

Option 1 (Cheapest)
Go to IZ3D.com and download the latest driver to test.
$100 - Xpand X102 DLP Link glasses (Or any other DLP Link 3d Glasses)
$100 (Approx) - Get PowerDVD or TotalMedia Theatre Software

Option 2
Get the Nvidia 3d vision kit
$160+ - Nvidia 3d vision kit - Includes glasses and emitter
$100+ - Compatible Nvidia graphics card
$100 (Approx) - Get PowerDVD or TotalMedia Theatre Software

Alot of other requirements for the Nvidia 3d Vision. This is the option I went, but I would recommend going the IZ3D driver route and using dlp link glasses.

I now have the Nvidia 3d Vision kit with 2 pair of the Nvidia 3d Glasses with my Optoma HD66 3d ready projector.

Uhmm, did I miss something here? Why not buy LG's 3D projector, which has been on the market (select countries) since February already. It received some great reviews (it's 1080p full HD), has two seperate engines build-in for dual 1080p projection (one for each eye), so that you don't need the active (shutter) glasses; the passive (polaroid) ones will do (you'll get 6 pairs with the PJ). Oh, and it's about 9,000 Euro or about $12,000 at the moment. Just do a search for the LG CF3D, or go here for example: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...&postcount=121

By the way, the new Sony uses shutter-tech, so requires the active glasses and will be priced in the same ballpark. There's not much info for the JVC's (besides them being shutter glasses as well), but that'll take a while anyways.
