Question Do 3D Plasmas have motion smoothing?

I was recently at Best Buy about a week ago and they had a Samsun 3Dtv model playing blurays (not in 3D of course) and I noticed that the bluray clips seemed to have that glossy soap-opera effect that people seem to dislike so much. Do all of the new 3DHDtvs look like this or was it just this specific model? I actually didn't mind it... it didn't look nearly as bad as what I've seen from most LCD/LEDs.

Motion interpolation is only featured on LCDs in order to help them with motion blur problems and lower motion resolution. Plasma does not suffer from these problems, so it's not a needed feature.

that's what I figured, but why did this specific model feature that soap-opera look? I wish I could remember specifically what model it was, but all I remember is that it was a Samsung 3D plasma.

The "soap-opera" look is sometimes a function of the way the Blu-ray was mastered, especially if it was shot digitally and not on film.

Other times, it's just because most mass-market retailers do not align sets properly. In fact, they do just the opposite: they have the sets tuned to a demo mode that has ultra high contrast, ultra high brightness and over-saturated color. If you properly align the set, it will look much better, although nowhere near as bright.

It may have been either the C7000 or C8000 series Samsung Plasma. They have a feature called Motion Judder Canceler which is supposed to smooth out the image similar to the frame interpolation of LCDs. Only the C8000 has the option to turn it off, though.

and the plasmas DO do better with the 3d effect i got the 63c8000 i would highly recommend the 8000 series as you can turn the motion judder off and it has 2d to 3d conversion which i feel is quite nice others find gimmicky but its was nice on alice in wonderland (its depth instead of pop out) but nice till there is more content the panasonics dont have this

I don't think I've seen any positive confirmation that either the C6000 (6400/6500) or the 5 series have MJC enabled.

The series 5 and 6 do not have the MJC(Soap Opera Effect), the 7000 does by default and can be tricky to disable, and 8000 does as well but has a setting in the menu turn it on or off.

quick question fellas, when i asked a few months ago if plasmas were ever going to get 120hz or whatever i got the answer "plasma doesnt need this" and it was explained to me. Then i asked if 120hz and A.M.P. was the same, the answer was "NO!!!!" is this correct??? if so, then why cant plasmas get the A.M.P. feature if it has nothing to do with 120hz feature and the A.M.P. feature is just to make it appear like more real-like? i personally like the AMP feature.... just asking

I thought Samsung only made 3D LED's or LCD's.

Plasmas refresh so quickly that they don't need to gloat about 120/240/480 hz. Many now feature a 600hz Subfield drive which essentially refreshes the picture enough to minimize/eliminate blur.

120/240hz and AMP/Motionflow are two separate things. 120/240hz is how fast the set can refresh. No matter what source you connect, LCDs will always refresh at 120/240/480hz. AMP and Motionflow is the manufacturers way of frame interpolation, or adding frames in between existing frames to smooth out motion.

Samsung Plasmas above 7000 have what is called Motion Judder Canceler. It is very similar to AMP, but I guess is tweaked somewhat for use on a plasma. On the C8000 it actually gives you 4 modes: Off, Standard, smooth and Cinema Smooth (24p Sources Only).

Hopefully this helps somewhat.

No sir, they are part of the remaining trifecta of top-tier plasma makers.

???????? LOL LOL too funny, i know 120hz is not needed by plasma tech, i even stated that. What i was asking was if plasmas could ever get "AMP" technology, not 120hz technology. I guess you somehow answered my question with the Motion Judder Canceler thingy.

So my new question now is, how well does MJC do vs AMP? What i wanna know is if it will give it the "soap opera" look like the AMP does???

You can turn it off on the 7000s as well, you simply have to change the model number in the service menu.

Default Motion smoother on my plasma?

I just bought the Samsung c 7000 series and it has the soap opera effect going on. For those who don't know, it looks like everything is filmed like a soap opera in that it all looks live, like a play. I remember seeing my buddies Vizio LED he had bought and it had this too, I thought there's no way I could watch anything like that.... but here I am with a c7000 PLASMA and i'm seeing it. Please help. HOW can I fix this problem? I have read some other postings about how the c8000 has it too but it has a button to turn it off. Another person mentioned you can turn it off on the 7000 but never specified how. How????????????

It sounds like Tru Motion Plus or something simular and your manual should have something in the way of an explaination. Otherwise, see what's available to you in your on screen user menu for the plasma tv. Maybe you can find it under the video settings.
