Talking Get Him to the Greek Review Thread

Byrne was absolutely gorgeous in Troy, but I must admit I haven't seen Damages. This movie is coming together a lot faster than I thought. Guess this is definitely next after Funny People for Apatow and the boys.

Hmmm, now this is interesting…

You’ll recall how we’d heard that Emily Blunt would be playing a role in the “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” spin-off, “Get Him to the Greek” (and how Jason Segel later confirmed Blunt’s involvement in an interview with Aint it Cool News) opposite Russell Brand. Well….Rose Byrne was just announced by The Hollywood Reporter to be playing a role that’s sounds eerily similar to the one we, and Segel (who described the character as “Fergie-type”, referring to the singer, of course, not the chunky ex-royal) had heard the lovely Ms Blunt was onboard to play.

According to the trade, “Damages” star Byrne will play “Brand's ex-girlfriend, a Courtney Love-type rocker”.

I’d say what’s happened here is Blunt was either onboard, or in talks, and the deal didn’t close – or she was forced out (in a similar way to what happened to her with “Iron Man 2” and the whole “Gulliver’s Travels” thing) because that’s undoubtedly the same role the Brit was said to be playing - only now they're referring to it as a 'Courtney Love-type' and not, as Segel said, a 'Fergie-type'.

Meanwhile, Sean ‘Puffy Daddy’ Combs and Elisabeth Moss (TVs “Mad Men”) have also joined the cast of the flick, playing Jonah Hill’s boss, and Hill’s repressed girlfriend, respectively.

The script, which Nicholas Stoller wrote, follows a fresh-out-of-college record-company intern (Hill) hired to get an out-of-control rock star (Brand) from London to a gig at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre, becoming introduced to an out-of-control life of hookers and blow along the way.

Default Get Him To Greek (Trailer Inside)

Get Him To Greek
Aaron Green (Hill) gets things done. The ambitious 23-year-old has exaggerated his way into a dream job just in time for a career-making assignment. His mission: Fly to London and escort a rock god to L.A.'s Greek Theatre for the first-stop on a $100-million tour. His warning: Turn your back on him at your own peril.

British rocker Aldous Snow (Brand) is both a brilliant musician and walking sex. Weary of yes men and piles of money, the former front man is searching for the meaning of life. But that doesn't mean he can't have a few orgies while he finds it. When he learns his true love is in California, Aldous makes it his quest to win her back... right before kick-starting his world domination.

Personally I don't think it looks that good as it sounded from the trailer. I hope it acknowledges the continuity between this and Forgetting Sarah Marshall and it comes off a tad bit weird that Aldous would fall in love, his relationship with Sarah Marshall wasn't that strong. P-Diddy also comes off less funny but more bad acting and I'd like to also hear a reference to Jonah's counterpart from Sarah Marshall.

Well, Brand kept trying to find some American movie to remake ("Arthur"? "Drop Dead Fred"?), so that we'd find him such a marketably lovable and boorish drunken slob over here for the first time--Looks like he finally found one.

Uh, but Russ?...Leave "My Favorite Year" alone.

To be honest, Russell Brand isn't that funny, his stand up is quite awful. I think the only good thing he ever got me laughing at was his joke about how met Home Alone boy on the set for FSM. His drunken schtick worked in FSM, I bet his lines were written by Apatow and that's about it. He hasn't really shown he's funny outside of that movie.

I thought it seemed alright, Russel Brand was the second best part of Sarah Marshall (first being the Dracula puppet musical) so it's good they are continuing his character. But to be honest, how many fricking times do we have to see Jonna Hill hug someone and then say something awkward, isn't that the reason why Micheal Cera was cast in Superbad

I hate that this is a sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall but Jonah Hill is playing a different character. There are plenty of actors out there, no need to use the same actor.

It's a spin-off, and we don't know, he might have a distant twin brother

Yeah the term spin off doesn't work for me. In reality it is a sequel.

I bet this how the whole film plays out:

Guy gets the assignment to get British Rocker to concert.
Guy flies to England to get British Rocker.
Guy discovers British Rocker suddenly doesn't want to go to concert.
Guy tries like hell to get British Rocker to go, comedy and sexual jokes ensue.
Guy makes British Rocker have a revelation and helps Guy keep his job and goes to concert.

THE END.

I didn't like Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I'd watch Pineapple Express over it any day.

James Franco's performance in it shows that he has range considering he was pretty much just doing the Spider-Man movies and being all villainous because Spidey killed his daddy. He goes from serious films to comedy and he killed in that movie. I got a kick out of the Return of the Jedi reference when they were in the warehouse. "What's down there, the f***in' Rancor?"

Sarah Marshall is way superior and mature than Pineapple Express. Even though it's like a more predictable version of 500 Days of Summer (which I prefer). It was still a clever script about being heartbroken.

Thus emphasizing the old saying that "Only stoners still laugh at Star Wars jokes".

I'm ashamed he's NJ's biggest film maker. Film maker? Is that even the right choice of his words. His new movie actually looks funny because he didn't write it. Halfway through the movie, Tracy Morgan would be giving Bruce Willis words of wisdom. Actually Smith can write good dialogue at times but his humor is flat.

I think Cop Out looks quite unfunny to me, the red band trailer just peaked my interest a bit.

Default Crazy Red Band Trailer for Get Him to the Greek

Quote:
Back in February, Universal unveiled the first trailer for their big summer comedy Get Him to the Greek starring Russell Brand and Jonah Hill as well as a whole bunch of other actors/musicians like Rose Byrne, P. Diddy, Christina Aguilera, Pink, and many more. Uni has also debuted a new red band trailer for Get Him to the Greek over on MySpace and it looks okay, but not a big improvement over the first trailer honestly. I think some of the humor can get a little dull quickly (like Aziz Ansari's opening), but the rest of it is good. I'm surprised there wasn't more to show in this? Just don't watch it at work or you WILL be fired. Enjoy!

A record company intern is hired to accompany out-of-control British rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) to a concert at LA's Greek Theater. His only warning: Turn your back on him at your own peril.

Get Him to the Greek is both written and directed by comedy mastermind Nicholas Stoller, the filmmaker behind Forgetting Sarah Marshall previously and a screenwriter for Fun with Dick and Jane and Yes Man as well. Jason Segel is also credited for the creation of the character Aldous Snow. Universal is bringing Get Him to the Greek to theaters everywhere on June 4th this summer.
Looks like a side story to Forgetting Sarah Marshall
