United Kingdom Hero - Yīng Xióng

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hero-Blu-ray...697411&sr=8-12

Release by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment

Coming out on Sept. 14. Haven't seen any specs or news posts about it anywhere. No idea about the specs or if it will differ from the US version (since the DVDs did).

US version will be locked to region A. Although I have no problem buying region A locked movies, I would prefer to have the B version because its easier for me to sell if and when future editions come out.

I am also buying a slim PS3 when it comes out, which hopefully runs a lot quieter than the 60gb US machine I have. Which unfortunately runs quite a lot louder than my 60gb UK machine.

Anyone have any details on the UK release? Does it have a lossless Mandarin track (unlike the US release)?

A member in a German forum, who has got the UK release, has confirmed Mandarin DD only: http://www.hifi-forum.de/index.php?a...postID=846#846

So, as expected, the UK is a clone of the US disc.

Argh! We need a release from a different studio completely. But we are running out of countries that haven't had it released on Blu yet.

Keep your eyes on the Spanish release. The place I ordered from claims Mandarin TrueHD and English subs. This might be the way to go until the HK or Japan version.

Sadly no. I have no idea what is going on with this release. None of the Spanish sites got it in stock. The only news is that it did get specs and extras listed. I am hoping it is just some temporary delay.

It IS NOT out. No retailers have gotten stock at all. AFAIK, it has been delayed with no announcement of delay. Sony Spain's website also has no specs listed for it.

I ordered mine from Starscafe, and from the date of release, they have been OOS. Fnac has 3-6 days waiting and DVDGo has 3-10 days pending stock.

I have no idea what is going on with this release. Zona-DVD hasn't posted any delay announcement so I don't know what happened. Only update on it was the audio/video specs and extras.

Also- I wouldn't order from DVDGO as the require you to fax or email your credit card info as verification even after using it to pay.

Says its in stock now.

Would appreciate it if someone could do a mini review. I'm interested to see if Sony did as good a job on the PQ as UK one.

I really burned my fingers with a purchase of the German release of "Hero" about a year ago. That version was an abomination - I cannot for the life of me think what the distributors were doing when they released this on an unsuspecting public. At first I actually thought the opening scenes had really been filmed during a snowstorm, until I realised that the "storm" was also taking place indoors and it dawned on me that it was the transfer that was at fault. The PQ was in fact so dismal I was convinced I had a faulty disc on my hands. Even a VHS copy would have been a better purchase! I read some reviews on amazon.de and realised other customers were really annoyed at quality of the disc. I purchased the UK version just a few days ago at a really good price (12.36 GBP including Germany's higher VAT (Sales Tax) and shipping). I had it within 3 days including a bank holiday and I am thrilled with the transfer. Rich, detailed and wonderful to behold -- just as it should be! My old purchase was brought back to the store immediately and fortunately I was able to get a full refund ... Note to self, always check reviews before blind purchasing!!
