It should look good in 3D, but The LEGO Movie had horribly conservative 3D, so I'm not expecting any better from The LEGO Batman Movie. I'll be waiting for the 3D blu ray rather than wasting money on an underwhelming theatrical presentation.

I saw this in 2D at the weekend, with my 3 year old son. I would ordinarily have plumped for 3D of course. Has anyone seen it in 3D? What were your thoughts?
There was a lot going on on the screen (particularly in the final act) so I'd have thought that there should be some nice layering. It looked like there were a couple of pop-outs in the final act too. |

John Wick 2 vs Lego Batman 3D. I want to see both, but I really enjoyed the action of John Wick 1. Will see that first, then if there's time, Batman 3D, as the week after that:
The Great Wall 3D Universal Pictures / Legendary Pictures Feb 17, 2017 On topic, Batman Lego 3D looks like it could be a fun movie, and I definitely want to see the villains and how Batman and Robin battle them in 3D. |

"delivers on all fronts in full. Noteworthy effects that fly out at the audience include, but are not limited to, Phantom Zone rays, various display monitors, LEGO pieces and explosions, and, in a particularly harrowing sequence, a chain of heroes holding on for dear life." I can't say that there were many of those in The LEGO Movie... |

Take their Sing review for example. http://www.cinemablend.com/news/1602...ht-sing-ticket First, the writer judges whether or not the story is appropriate for 3D, which is ridiculous because you can tell any story in 3D if you shoot it right. Then he talks about how difficult it is for animated movies to make full use of 3D, when nothing could be further from the truth, and how Sing is some kind of exception. Then he scores the pop-out category 5/5 for having one pretty good pop-out in the entire movie. Later he rates how bright his theater's projector was and assigns that score to the movie. I seriously doubt he fully understands how blurring in a glasses-off image actually relates to the stereo glasses-on image. Then he rambles on about how watching Sing's 3D might require some sort of adjustment period for your eyes, but how it still receives full health points because its one of the 3D films that won't make you vomit. The way their writers experience and think about 3D is completely foreign to me. Last edited by BleedOrange11; 02-11-2017 at 06:57 AM. |

The screen was reasonably bright, but owning a 4K HDR set, I would have preferred a brighter 2D viewing with colors that pop, which would add a lot to a movie like this. Overall, I would give the 3D 3.5/5. I was more impressed with the subtle depth effects, as it was lacking memorable pop out or gimmick moments. |

Bleed Orange 11, I really appreciate your post #17 above.
I think a great many people-- film critics and ordinary movie buffs-- would profit from reading the Spottiswoodes' Theory of Stereoscopic Transmission and Lipton's Foundations of the Stereoscopic Cinema, both of which are available as fully authorized free downloads online. Neither qualifies as light reading, but Lipton's book is probably a little more accessible to the average reader. |
