Default Farewell, My Lovely / The Big Sleep (1975-1978)

Quote:
Synopsis

A RAYMOND CHANDLER DOUBLE FEATURE STARRING ROBERT MITCHUM

Philip Marlowe (Robert Mitchum) is involved in a case of deception, double-cross and murder in Farewell, My Lovely. When Moose Malloy (Jack O'Halloran), a giant ex-con fresh from prison, asks Marlowe to find his missing sweetheart, Marlowe winds up lying unconscious on the floor with a dead man next to him. In his search for answers, Marlowe encounters a seedy collector, a seductive femme fatale and a former gangster. The case could very well cost Marlowe his life. Charlotte Rampling, Sylvia Miles, John Ireland, Harry Dean Stanton and Sylvester Stallone also star.

Philip Marlowe (Robert Mitchum), is caught in a deadly case of blackmail in The Big Sleep. General Sternwood (James Stewart), an aged and wealthy American, is being blackmailed over the antics of his two daughters, Charlotte (Sarah Miles) and Camilla (Candy Clark). Marlowe travels into the seedy underworld of crime beneath old London, through a dangerous web of murder and suicide and straight into the sinister world of gangster Eddie Mars (Oliver Reed). Joan Collins, Edward Fox and John Mills also star.

Thrilled of the BLU upgrade on these. Both are nice films in their own respect. I have to pick this one up for sure.

Hope the bonus features get carried over like the Michael Winner audio commentary.

Thrilled that these ITV titles are getting upgrades.

Hopefully this means we might have a chance to get the two Charles Bronson ITV titles upgraded to bluray.
I'd love to see new HD widescreen blurs of Love and Bullets and Borderline.

I'd also love to get Russian Roulette on bluray too.

Excellent news. I've only ever watched Farewell, My Lovely in crappy quality on Youtube.

Great news. Since Shout only released the DVD's of these in 2014 and 2015, I didn't think they'd upgrade. Instant purchase for me.

Great announcement. These are two great films. I think that Farewell My Lovely is the best of the three film adaptations of that particular story (though it still does change a few things from the book) and if you can look past the change of setting, The Big Sleep is pretty good too.

Now, if only we can get Warner Archive to bring Marlowe out on blu-ray.

Absolutely. And since Ross McDonald is basically Raymond Chandler one step removed and Paul Newman is, well, Paul Newman I'll throw in a plug for Harper and The Drowning Pool.

There's a lot to love about the 60s-70s and their treatment of pulp detective stories is right up there.

Stuff like Marlowe and The Long Goodbye were really fascinating mashups of contemporary stylings and what had by then become traditional detective stories.

Keep 'em coming.

Good for fans, but me personally, I'll probably just stick to the '44 and '46 adaptations, respectively...as awesome as Mitchum was, he was far too old to be playing a private eye in the mid-late 70s.

I dunno, he was awfully good in The Yakuza.
