Default MKV playback problems on the Samsung 3D TV PS50C6900

I am experiencing problems trying to play .mkv files via USB and streaming on this TV set. All mkv files have been previously tested on the Popcorm Media player as well as the Sony BDP S370. When I try to play a .mkv file from USB, the video plays but I get message on the TV saying "Audio Not Supported", presumably because the TV can't decode AC3 in the mkv container. Trying to stream the file over ethernet from the Popcornhour (which is DLNA complaint) gives the error message "Not supported File Format". Divx movies stream without problems and work via USB as expected.

Has anyone been able to get .mkv files playing on the C6*** or C7*** Samsung TV's, streaming or otherwise?

Samsung support was most unhelpful when I rang them. When the first thing the rep wanted me to do was a system reset, I knew the conversation would go nowhere. She started to read the list of supported video formats to me from the manual first, and I had to point out the the file extensions she was reading out to me were subtitle formats and not video formats.

Samsung support kinda fails. I have the same Blu-ray player but I have a PN50C7000 Samsung 3D Plasma TV. I have not tried to play .mkv files directly through the USC port on the TV but .mkv's work fine through the my BDC-6900 blu-ray player. I think I tried .mkv files through the BD player's USC port. Try playing the files through the player and see if that works. I might be the TV, but I can't see why it would not support .mkv

DragosC, can I please request you to try out .mkv files from the USB port of your TV? The .mkv files work fine in the player for me also, it's the TV that is problem. At times (to be green), I would rather not have to turn my player, receiver, subwoofer, etc to play (lesser quality) MKV files.

Your findings will be appreciated, and I will go back to Samsung support once you have confirmed your findings.
