THE GREAT GATSBY
![]() I saw the trailer to this and the 3D looked amazing..... The movie itself looks like it's going to be great as well judging by the trailer and the great actors involved.... Do you guy's plan on seeing this ? Last edited by MovieFanatic2010; 03-15-2013 at 11:07 AM. |

They deliberately buried it between summer blockbusters so they have an excuse for it's pending failure. (I'm sure they're going to take a loss on it... It has to have cost more than $150 million with P&A). I wouldn't surprised if it finishes behind the Tyler Perry movie that week... fitprod |

What upcoming movie out there do you think is worthwhile in your opinion, that doesn't deserve a negative prediction, as most of your posts seem to suggest over some months' time? The Great Gatsby's 3D looks really good from the new trailer shown before Oz 3D. I might check it out for that. It does have some big names attached to it like DeCaprio and Spider-Man's Tobe Maguire that should help ticket sales. I never read the book though. It looks interesting as a "period piece" based on that era in time. |

I personally thought it was good strategy moving it to may where it doesnt have to go up against the big names and still have a better turn around assuming reviews and advertising goes well. |

I'll reiterate what Zivouhr said, by agreeing with the statement that the new trailer before 'Oz: the Great and Powerful' has the best 3D pop and depth, I've seen yet, past trailers didn't have a big wow factor to me.

![]() ![]() ![]() ...Uh, you DO know that the studio sandwiched it right smack between Iron Man 3 and Star Trek 2, which Warner already knows is what killed off Speed Racer? That's about as "Going up against" as you can humanly GET, not to mention "Fatal". And we all have a big ol' whopping suspicion why. (And if you don't, call up your old high school Lit teacher, and ask him/her the old one about "Were Nick and Jay actually gay, because they hung out together?" ![]() If you get an answer to that question...either Baz didn't, or he wishfully ignored it.) |

I'll admit I've been hard on GI Joe 2 and The Great Gatsby, but I've learned over the years, unless a film is delayed prior to filming, it's never a good sign. Especially when something being hyped hard for a select date, and is moved just a month prior... Not quite the case with The Great Gatsby of course, but when marketing makes the following statement public, something is fishy: From Baz Luhrmann explains Great Gatsby delay. "Based on what we've seen, Baz Luhrmann's incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more," said Feldman. "We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible." (Feldman is the President of Domestic Distribution for WB.) I'm sorry, you don't drop a film like this between two monster blockbusters, Iron Man 3 & Star Trek 2, to "reach the largest audience possible". Then there's World War Z... Multiple re-writes, delays etc. I want it to be good but... fitprod |

This from someone who signs, "If a movie isn't in 3D it isn't really worth watching." Seriously?
God forbid I'd enjoy films from someone that makes no apologies for this style of films. His films are stupid, stylistic entertainment. You probably idolize someone like Tony Scott, who was essentially the same type of film director, with a more traditional editing style. I'm sorry that I have no faith in a film's potential because it's too f***ing full of itself. It is being pitched as some hip, mis-mash retelling of a classic story, that cares much more about it's production design, and how Jay-Z's songs fit into the film, than the actual story. It's not like Baz Lurhmann has a track record of bloated spectacles... But that Michael Bay, what a hack... Oh wait. ![]() Yeah, I have no respect for people like Scorcese, Coppala, Cameron, Hitchcock, Spielberg, Fincher or other respected directors. They all hacks compared to Bay. fitprod Last edited by fitprod; 03-15-2013 at 10:23 PM. |

Maybe it didnt want it up against another DiCaprio movie which can split the fans of strictly DiCaprio. I just highly doubt they moved to make an excuse to be bad. It looks interesting and Baz can be good so I'll wait on the reviews before i commit to see this in theaters. But judging the trailer it looks pretty good. |

Bay thinks he makes brilliant films, he is always socially attacking people like a 5th grader who don't think much of his work. I don't like Tony Scott so keep on presuming away. It's not that I care at all if you have faith in this movie it's that you talk a load of shit and present it as fact. You do it whenever I see your posts. You act like you know all this insider shit and how large scale cinema works. You don't know shit! What does you having respect for some filmmakers have to do with anything? |

Audiences who prefer drama, or something more serious in tone first, like Hugo, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, etc, might want to see The Great Gatsby first, before considering action adventure movies like Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness, which tend to appeal more to younger audiences I'd imagine.
The new extended Great Gatsby 3D preview was interesting, as it showed more stuff like a car chase and revealed more about the story. Great 3D. |
