Default Blu-ray owners - pledge with me against giving in to HD DVD...

Here's the deal. I understand that there are those of you who own both an HD DVD player and a Blu-ray player. Nothing you can do about that. From a statistical, reason-based standpoint, I can totally understand and encourage early HD DVD adopters to buy a Blu-ray player. The reasons are obvious (studio support, larger and more diversified competitive manufacturer base, superior technical specs and exciting new technology that's on the horizon, growing PS3 sales, continued disc sale dominance, etc.) It is therefore reasonable to convert from HD DVD to Blu. ON THE CONTRARY...it is absolutely inexcusable to buy an HD-DVD player if you are solely a Blu-ray player owner. By doing so, you are only hurting all of us...you are hurting the market and in a transcendental round-about way, yourself. Because you are willfully contributing to the schizophrenia that has arrested the HD home entertainment market. By giving money to a format that is competing against your own, you are perpetuating a war that doesn't need to exist. Increasing the number of casualties that will have been in vain. You, in essence, are pulling a Paramount. I say if you believe in Blu, stick with it 'til the end. If HD DVD wins, I'm all for it....but I will not be the one to push it over the edge as I have already put my money on Blu. My commitment stands. If HD DVD wins, it will be by its own merits in grabbing the fencesitters. I will let the public at large decide that. (But I will do my best to persuade them to buy Blu) When I bought a PS3, I declared myself off the fence and in Blu's corner. When you bought a Blu-Ray player, you did the same. If we want a winner...if we truly support Blu-ray for what it is...if we believe in its technology and if its what we want to succeed DVD, then we have to persevere in absolute fidelity come hell or high water. Give me Blu or Give me death. Otherwise, what's the point?

Even though I am slightly tempted to buy an HD DVD player due to its cheap pricing and the exclusivity of two of my favorite movies (Children of Men and Transformers), I hereby pledge not to propagate a war that is keeping the HD market stagnant. I will stand by Blu no matter what. Will you?

A friend once told me its either ALL ass or NO ass. NEVER half-ass!

(This was instigated by a conversation I had with my coworkers tonight regarding the state of the format war and those who might be tempted to venture into HD DVD territory as a result of player price drops and purchase incentives re: amazon)

In September of last year I bought both a Blu-ray player and an HD DVD player, and I eventually bought about 40 HD DVDs. I always preferred BD, but at the beginning I was open to HD DVD.

Earlier this year, however, I decided to stop buying HD DVDs, and I even took the step of unplugging my HD DVD player and not watching the HD DVDs I already owned. I have lost count of the number of BDs I've bought.

To me, BD clearly represents the superior technology because of disc capacity and higher bitrate levels and the resulting potential for superior PQ, which is the only reason I got into this in the first place.

I have no plans to alter my BD buying and watching habits, and I have no plans to resume watching or buying HD DVDs.

I have no intention of giving any encouragement to the clearly inferior technology.

I must admit I have been tempted by the low priced hd dvd players and caught myself looking at them longingly at frys the other day. all the talk had gotten to me about paradreamuni being hd dvd. as I stood there staring longer and longer I became angry and picked an hd dvd player and hit somebody with it. ok maybe that didn't happen but I did feel dirty after even considering getting one of those pieces of crap. I feel so dirty. and any of you deffecter should feel dirty too.

its like growing up eating awesome mexican food at places like alejandro's, alberto's, sombrero's, rigo's or carnitas uruapan. then finding yourself one day standing outside a taco bell thinking ''wow a chalupa. that sounds good.'' its a disgusting thought.

I think your all panicing !

the facts are :

BD is outselling HDDVD
There is a better and bigger selection of software on BD

Threads like this belong to hddvd owners talking about HDDVD not BD.

BD is in a better position than a month ago. the slew of new fox releases far outweigh a couple descent titles we lost with paramount temporarily. buying into HD-DVD now makes even less sense now than a month ago.

I went neutral this week & bought an HD-DVD addon for my 360. I really don't understand this unwavering allegiance to a format (People swearing to never buy HD-DVD, when they absolutely would if it won), as if my "pledge" to support only Blu-ray would make a difference in the format war. The war will be decided not by enthusiasts on a forum, but everyday joe's walking into a wal-mart. Don't get me wrong, if I had a choice I would choose Blu-Ray, but I don't have any kind of allegiance to either.. I want to watch movies in HD, regardless of what kind of disc it is. Let the studios battle it out: for 179 dollars, I don't have to worry about who has what exclusive. When (If) the dust settles, I'll still have my HD movies & can still watch them. The Paramount move was big.. and I wouldn't be surprised to see Warner switch too: they've favored HD-DVD the entire time. Regardless, as I said it doesn't matter anymore to me.

I will never pledge allegiance to Sony, Toshiba or any other company. It's their collective fault we are in a "format war". They don't care about me & my pocketbook, so why should I care about them & theirs?

I'm in. I'm probably the hardest consumer to please in the world..lol

I still don't have a PS3 because of the lack of games. But once FF13 drops I will be picking one up.

With it I will be picking up a large collection of Blu movies...

My preference toward Blu-Ray wasn't fuelled by hatred to MS/Tosh or by love toward Sony. It was purely based on my appreciation of this much more advanced technology. It does not matter to me which of the formats is currently having an upper hand or for that matter how long the format war will last - no matter what I will stick with Blu-Ray. Blu all the way, guys!

I would say welcome but that's not a favorable first post. I suppose i'll be nice and say hello anyway.

you do realize though that this is all in fun right? we love our blu ray movies and believe that it is a better format, but no one is being shot as a traitor.

so please don't trample on our little blu army men while we have some fun. besides we're all just alter egos of ourselves on here anyways.

but influx does have a point. its like buying a dvd player then going and buying a laserdisc player because there's a movie on there that isn't out on dvd yet.

and since my earlier post I went and had a chorizo burrito. mmmmm good mexican food.

i know it's mostly all in good fun, i just got tired of the whole side a vs side b scenario: praise everything side a does & damn everything b does (it's on both sides of the line).. we all want the same thing: HD Goodness.

as far as it not being a unfavorable first post, i don't understand. As I said, I prefer Blu-Ray, and chose it long ago. Going neutral just makes sense to me now as the studios are split. I'm really not trying to start off on the wrong foot, just being honest.

In the end, this format war is bad for consumers & is driven by greed. I'm still buying the discs, but I don't feel I owe anything to any company.
