Default In the Name of the King 2 (2012)

Ok, this was in development back when I was working with Boll back in 2008 and I was even hired to write a treatment for this and now it looks like the film is back on track with Dolph Lundgren.

Quote:
Achtung, Jews, I got you an early Hanukkah present. L’chaim, it’s a new Uwe Boll movie! What, don’t tell me you’d have rather gotten money, that’s so typical (haha, chill out, that’s just a little Jew humor I picked up at camp). Fresh off that film where he plays a Nazi at Auschwitz (NOT a comedy) and that other one about the fat, Nazi-fighting half vampire where he plays Hitler (supposedly a comedy), Uwe Boll will soon be drinking shirtless Absinthe shots with Dolph Lundgren. That’s because Boll has reportedly cast Hitler’s ideal of perfection as… wait for it… a medieval war veteran who gets sucked back in time by ninjas. Hey, man, don’t kill the messenger (Mel Gibson hates it when you do that).

Quote:
Lundgren told blogtalk radio: “I play an ex-middle ages war veteran who gets f**ked up but he gets pulled into some sort of medieval power struggle, kind of gets a bit of a redemption for all his pains in service. It’s a role I just wanted to play. It’s fun to exercise my acting chops [sic] once in a while. I’ve got to get ready for ‘Expendables 2′.”

Speaking about the plot – which is set in the kingdom of Ehb – director Boll said: “It’s like contemporary, right now big city, and we have Dolph Lundgren basically being a cop or like a fighting coordinator working as this, and one night he gets attacked by ninjas in his house and fell with the ninjas into a vortex back in time. [...] And then it turns out it’s like 50 years after the first part ‘In the Name of the King’ ended, and Ehb is destroyed and everybody is dead, Jason Statham and everybody who was in the first part, got wiped out.”

‘In the Name of the King 2′ is set to start shooting early next year in Canada. [Bloginity via LiveforFilms]
Uwe Boll has made three movies this year despite there not being a single plausible explanation for financing an Uwe Boll movie in the last 10 years. I guess what I’m trying to say is, I know people say this a lot, but there’s no way this movie happens. Just having Uwe Boll and Dolph Lundgren on the same set is enough to get the Anti-Defamation League so far up your ass you couldn’t see straight.

This sounds like a stellar so-bad-it's-good movie. I'm a sucker for tripe like this. Comes from being a big Mystery Science Theater fan, I suppose. But regardless, the time traveling ninjas and Dolph Lundgren are enough for me. I'll check it out, beer in hand (or maybe whiskey for this one...)

On an aside, I honestly didn't hate In the Name of the King part 1 as much as everyone else seemed to. It was perfectly mediocre and forgettable, but I just didn't think it was anywhere near as awful as I had heard. In fact, it was damn good for a Uwe Boll movie. Not saying much, but still.

The treatment that I was hired to write back two years ago dealt with the sons of Farmer (Jason Statham) who were both at odds with each other on who would rule after his death.

That certainly sounds better than the plot they're supposedly going forward with. Well, apart from the lack of time traveling ninjas of course.

Yeah, when I was going through the process, Boll told me that he wanted something that could easily be shot on a budget of $10 million. The first film had a budget of $60 million. He knew he couldn't get Statham back with the budget of this film and told me to come up with a story based around his character's children. I know the first film had ninjas in it, but I didn't include any of that in this. There were knights in mine like there was in the first.

I have no knowledge of the game of Dungeon Siege, so I was just going off of what I had saw from the first film. And basically had the protagonist and antagonist as twins who would fight for their father's thrown and be king of the land.

You know, I did an draft of Attack on Darfur back when it was called Janjaweed, I am seriously afraid to watch it and see my work on the screen. I had did that one first and then the treatments for In the Name of the King 2 and Alone in the Dark 3. All I was wanting to do originally was Alone in the Dark 3. I had no interest in any of these other projects but just did them for the hell of it because I really wanted a film adaption of the first game and that's what the treatment was for Alone in the Dark 3; an adaption of the first game but set in the present with the haunted mansion.

Did any of that actually work out? Well, other than In the Name of the King 2 of course.

I turned all my work into him and during the course of the re-writes for Janjaweed aka Attack on Darfur I quit because he went from calm and collected to just being a straight up as**ole. Like Boll can go from Jekyll to Hyde in an instant. He was cool and everything when I first met him and he wasn't as bad as his reputation was until he really started getting into his "I'm a director and I am going to make a movie" mode.

The Janjaweed script that I wrote was based off of a seven page treatment he wrote himself and he wanted this to be a 100 minute film and he had certain spots on this treatment with how far along he wanted it to be. I feel I did my best on the scripting. I am so-so towards Boll now; a part of me hates him but at the same time I almost had my career started because of him.

And the reason why I am not really mad at him as much is given how this was back in 2008 and Postal went only to 10 theaters in the country, I can understand how he could be frustrated and all with him and those petitions wanting him to quit.

But, to get to the point, Kilowertz, I haven't seen Attack on Darfur, so I don't know if any of the material I wrote is in it or not. And obviously there's no Alone in the Dark 3, YET. If I can get my studio off of the ground and rolling next year, I would like to try to buy the rights away for Alone in the Dark from Boll so I can do my version of it.

Good luck good sir, I hope you're able to do it because I'd love to see a good version of Alone in the Dark

So, let me get this straight OE, you understand him being a d$%k because a filmmaker who's previous films had been box office failures was upset that his latest film (at the time) only came out on ten screens? The fact that he was able to get his movie shown theatrically on ANY screen w/ his track record is a minor miracle.

Well fortunately the days of Uwe Boll movies appearing theatrically and making back 1% of their budget are over as he's been relegated to straight-to-DVD land.

Now if only we can send the Meet the Spartans and Vampires Suck team there too.

Oh how I wish that had happened already back before Date Movie came out...........They are awful, awful movies that never deserved to be projected on the silver screen

I just glanced at this, and it only adds to the intrigue I have developed about Lundgren, who I always knew was Swedish, but only recently realized he graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, then graduated top of his class with a Masters in Chemical Engineering at the University of Sydney in Australia, then earned a Fullbright scholarship to get his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, when he began to study acting on the advice of a friend.

http://www.dolphlundgren.com/welcome.html

And now, he will star in a Uwe Boll film...

To be fair, Lundgren's pretty much been doing B movies his whole career. He was in a few higher profile pictures, like Rocky 4 and Masters of the Universe, but most of his stuff has been direct-to-video fair. Doing an Uwe Boll movie probably isn't that much of a change for him. He probably views it as something low-key he can do while waiting for Expendables 2. I'm sure he's very self aware.

It sounds like a paycheck job for him.

But to be fair, Lundgren isn't an idiot. He knows what the majority of films he's made in the last 15 years are like.

I'm just surprised he couldn't land a big studio job (even if it's just a supporting role) on the heels of The Expendables.

And now we have a poster thanks to the folks at DreadCentral.com. I guess I could take my treatment and just produce it into a film. And just like the ninjas; there sure as s**t were no dragons in my treatment either. I also don't recall any dragons in the first film either.
