United Kingdom Good UK titles not in US

I am going to order the Bourne boxet from UK as import into US since the price seems much better then US and now with the newer VAT discount for US its even better.

With that in mind there has been some UK titles I was holding out on getting that are not available in US or where UK has much better deals then US.

So far I have these Blu-Ray titles in my cart in addition to Bourne boxset:

The Feast (not available in US)
Payback (has both versions of movie on one disk, not in US)

UPDATE:
Quote:
Okay skipping the Feast and waiting for US release based on this info
So can anyone suggest some other good titles I may want to look at?

I thought about Equilibirum but some mention that its PQ not much better then upscaled DVD. And wondered about The Island, but that one does not have an HD audio track. Then there is Total Recall been thinking about.

Also here is my post on UK Bourne release. I tried to make it a cumulative thread with many links to past post about information about UK vs US versions.

Here is a tip that is going to end up costing you a lot of money on UK imports. Read all the British reviews by Dr. Atanasov, from this very site.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/revie...viewerid=10022

He rates many UK Blu-rays, and always confirms if a title can be played by U.S. players. The guy is a true asset to the site, and a class act. Just go through the titles in the link above and read for yourself.

Wow thanks for that link Clark, its bookmarked now.

Lots of foreign films too. I rarely even get to see these but once in awhile I get a good tip from friends on good ones like this one that has been recommended to me often.

Tell No One has been released in an excellent presentation on American Blu-ray. Great, great movie with a lot of surprises.

x2 on Zulu and Elephant Man. Both are amazing films and stunning blu-rays. (Zulu looks like it was filmed yesterday.)

Also worth considering:
Highlander
Sunrise
City Girl
Red Dragon
Dances with Wolves (180-minute theatrical)

Total Recall has (much) better PQ in the UK.
Terminator 3 and Twister have better PQ/AQ in the UK.
The Thing (1982) has the DVD supplements that were dropped in the US.

The Deer Hunter is also on BD in the UK; it's only on DVD & HD DVD here. It's Regions A & B and fully US-compatible; though the 5.1 audio track is marred by a PAL-speedup issue (the 2.0 isn't), its PQ runs rings around the original non-anamorphic DVD most commonly found here.

If you have multi-region equipment that can handle 50Hz trailers (Momitsus & Sherwoods can), you can also get Laurence Olivier's 1948 Hamlet on Region B BD; much better PQ than the Criterion DVD. It's the only pre-1970 Best Picture winner currently on BD anywhere from any studio other than WB (GWTW, Casablanca, etc.)--unless you count Sunrise as co-Best Picture with Wings at the first Oscars for its one-year-only "Unique & Artistic Picture" award. (Rotten Tomatoes & I both count it, but the Academy doesn't.)

Default Good Movie? Maybe.

What about Escape From New York--a bit dated in terms of SFX but semi-iconic SF nonetheless?

I'd been thinking about Highlander, but I ended up under the impression that it wouldn't play in the U.S.

Highlander plays fine in Region A machines. It's worth picking up. Unfortunately the steelbook is OOP.

But the region free French BD has a 5.1 lossless soundtrack and the American doesn't.

I'm a bit puzzled by this. I thought films mastered for bluray weren't affected by 'PAL-speedup' as they're not PAL? Are you saying they used an old audio track from a PAL master that runs a bit faster than the bluray version of the film? If so that's lazy!

Matt

The Island is not available in the US either. Great PQ and region free.

I can think of one really good Blu-ray not out in the US, and that is the original 1969 version of The Italian Job. It is a really great, classic film and has a superb 1 1/2hr making-of documentary. Although I can understand why it is unlikely to ever be relased in America, because it wasn't successful and instead they have the crumby remake.

That in itself convinces me to have that in my collection (It's the 6th Movie on my International List)

Thanks Clone Trooper

I'm waiting until August to see how MGM's presentation of Escape from New York turns out.

My German steelbook of Highlander plays fine on my PS3.

No problem. The only thing I would say is that it is a very, very British film and unless you get the humour, jokes and all, then you're unlikely to like it. But give it a whirl and hopefully you'lle enjoy it. Michael Caine is superb.

I tried ordering Downfall today on Amazon.co.uk, it still says In Stock but every time I try to place the order it tells me its not in stock. Kind of annoying.
