Default Moriarty from AICN calls HD-DVD Laserdisc 2k6

Anyone who's ever browsed through Aint It Cool News should know Moriarity by now. Simply put: This guy is usually pretty dead-on about anyting movie related, and more than one person would tell you that he probably carries more credence than Harry at this point.

Anyways, this was a gem. You may need to scroll down a bit:

Yes, HD-DVD has had a rough first week. The reviews of the players have been less than inspiring so far, and the software that’s being sent out has been buggy and frustrating for some users. Any message board you go to that specializes in home video stuff is pretty much dense with debate this past week. Early adapters are tough customers, and they’re willing to point out every single flaw with these expensive new systems, but they’re also willing to sing its praises if they’re genuinely impressed.
So what’s hitting the shelves this week to tempt those people who have their set-ups ready to go?
If you go to the page, you'll see several of those words are hyperlinked for further reading.

This terminology seems to be making its rounds like wildfire, but I do have one minor problem: It besmirches the good name of laserdisc.

Quite right. Many people don't know that LDs had been around for more than two decades. I still have a decent LD collection that I will still keep. I have a Runco LJR-II that outputs it to a Holo3D card to deinterlace and then displayed on my 38" Loewe Aconda looks fantastic for even LD. Not to mention the sheer tangible feel of the LD boxsets and the cool little promos and pack-ins that came with the special edition boxsets. But I digress

I more-or-less missed the LD generation, mostly on account of my cursed youth. However, on occasion I had access to a family friend's LD collection. Next time I'm at a garage sale and find someone trying to liquidate their LD collection (probably at relatively hefty price as far as garage sale economics are concerned) I'm totally picking it up.

Also, LD is easily one of the greatest formats on earth if for no other reason than it's pretty much the highest quality one is going to find of an official Star Wars release where Greedo doesn't shoot first.
