Default Another AICN dummy goes HD DVD

And of course he either doesn't know what he's talking about, or he intentionally lies to HD-DVD's benefit...

It seems he is just misinformed, not necessarily putting out false information on purpose... and he explains that price is most important to him since he doesn't have a PS3 (which he says solves the problem of what to choose for those who do buy Sony's system).

I have a feeling that like Harry, it wasn't primarily a choice between Blu-ray and HD DVD, but between continuing with DVD or going hi-def, in which case they were allured by the deals they found. I have a feeling that once Blu-ray players get cheap they'll buy one as well. If Samsung and LG can price dual-format players more competitively, then we can look foward to a solution that takes exclusive studios and all the format war nonsense out of the picture.

I do enjoy his final statement on the matter, than in the end, it's not about companies or format wars, but about movies, no matter format:

Quote:
I’ll end it by saying that no matter which side of this format war you’re on, or if you even care in the first place, we’re starting to get some really great special features and interactivity. These films are looking great, with 1080p being almost as good of a resolution as 35mm film it’s a really amazing time for home theater geeks. I hope whatever happens works out well for either side. If I had my way there would only be one clear option out there right now, as obvious a leap as DVD was to video. I know that my THE THING, THE STING, UNTOUCHABLES and BLACK SNAKE MOAN discs look and sound fantastic and that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day. Watching a film you love in the best way you can.

He got around the major truth with his statement. He didn't say the majority of MAJOR studios are neutral. He just said said the majority of studios are neutral (and if counting smaller studios world wide...that is true). That means he is intentionally misleading people by not telling them most of the mainstream films they watch will be coming from studios that support Blu-ray.

To me...that is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Here's his problem, and he said it himself...
He didn't buy (and apparenlty didn't try hard to look up) a Blu-ray disc system. Therefore, he is only looking at the inferiour HD-DVD system and comparing it to DVDs and then using bad information and misinformation (the classic stuff you hear) to compare HD and Blu.
Bad move. If he has compared the DVD and Blu-ray, he might notice more of a difference, also if he didn't use low quality tranfers and used high quality ones like Bridge to Terebithia.
His netire report is biased from the beginning and says little about either format.

Excellent point, seems like Graffeo helped him write that.

The bottom line is that Tarantino and Rodriguez are in bed with Weinstein, who is HD exclusive (for now). They are loyal, and Harry is their acolyte, and his employees his acolytes.

They go where big fish leads

Default Why HD-DVD has any buyers right now

This is not a support of HD-DVD but the writer's point for going HD-DVD was the cheapness of the player.

And he makes a good point that WHEN HD-DVD folds he won't be out that much and he will still be able to watch the movies anyway.

He obviously doesn't realize that watching a movie on a PS3 is actually a good thing.

He also doesn't realize all the exclusive contracts that Blu-ray has.

This article is just a great example of why HD-DVD has any buyers. THE CHEAP PLAYERS.

Reservoir Dogs is on Blu-Ray it isn't on HD-DVD.

I hope we can all stop perpetuating the mentality of you're only with us or you're against us. It whips people into a pirahna-like state of mind. People shut off their brains and instinctively attack.

I like to look at it more like: You're either part of the problem or part of the solution.

The corrollary being: If you're not one then you are the other.

Seriously though: AICN hasn't had credibility for who knows how many years anyways. Who cares if some of those dolts extol HD-DVD or anything else for that matter?

Heck, this is almost good news. The more idiots that come out there and show painfully that they don't know their butts from a hole in the wall and that's how and why the end up endorsing HD-DVD? Doesn't that speak for itself?

Let more of that happen. That's just more of a credibility stain it is on that format and the more it helps send that thing down the drain that much sooner.
