How much is the PS3 helping blu-ray win the war?
A lot, a little? Are the 2 markets mutually exclusive? I think it helps us heaps because blu-ray comes with the PS3. X-box 360 has HD-DVD as an option. |

there's a post about this already in the Blu-ray movies section, it is what actually inspired my post with the poll. here is the other thread:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=15817 I will answer though, I think the PS3 is absolutely pivotal to Blu-ray's success, most of the people I talk to that own Blu-ray movies also own a PS3, that is saying something. Last edited by glenn22; 09-05-2007 at 06:24 PM. |

A lot. Blu-ray for both games and movies was the main selling point of PS3 to me. I wouldn't have a BD player otherwise.

I'm not a gamer. But it looks like I will probably be buying a PS3 as a BD player. Best price and bang for the buck, and I expect it will be 1.1 & later -Live capable. Unless CEDIA comes out with something firm to meet those specs and cost $600 or less. I just wish the PS3 had analog outs.

HD-DVD belittle the PS3 by not counting it, preferring to use "standalone figures". I'm betting that the average PS3 owner has 1-4 blu-ray movies. And alot of members here have a lot more! When better and more exclusive games come out for PS3 then you will see a rise in blu-ray movie sales as well. Not the case with 360 buyers because most wont buy a hddud addon right away. |

this would allow him to enjoy the benefits of lossless PCM or TruHD without a receiver that has HDMI inputs and a processor for PCM or TruHD sound. Like him, i wish the PS3 had analog outs, because my receiver has analog inputs but no HDMI inputs (thus, i can hear lossless sound when playing HD-DVDs, because my HD-D1 player has analog outs, but not when playing BD's via my PS3). |

Yep. That's it exactly. I have one set of analog audio in, as well as 3 optical and one coax. The analog RCA inputs work much better. My JVC receiver is set up now for 5.1, although I have installed 7.1 speakers for the future. I figure upgrading to an HDMI receiver would cost at least $600.
