Looks like the cost cutters hit the 1007 -> 1008 transition. No longer Ultra2 Plus Certified and just the more basic Audyssey MultEQ (IOW, not the XT version). I would gladly give up the 9.2 for 7.1 with Audyssey MultEQ XT and Ultra2 Plus certification. IOW, I am still keeping my 805.
It just goes to show how truly great the original 805 was and still is to this day. Last edited by Tok; 06-01-2010 at 09:48 PM. |

You're right Craig, I'm surprised at this move from Onkyo!
Now, we have to look up at the 3008 & 5008 for the real meat and processing. The 1008 simply does not make the cut no more. ![]() Oh well welcome to the future; HDMI 1.4, 3D, 9.2-channel, and tralala... * By the way Thanks iceman for these latest. ![]() Last edited by LordoftheRings; 06-01-2010 at 10:35 PM. And if I may, I think the 805 has more guts than the 1008 which is only THX Select2 Plus and has only Audyssey MultEQ! The 805 had THX Ultra2 an Audyssey MultEQ XT; more powerful amp rating and much better resolution in the lower audio frequencies using Audyssey. It is sad that even the 1007 (his predecessor) has better specs than the 1008. * When the 805 came to the market in 2007, and I started to read about it, I knew then that there was a catch. ...And the catch has finally materialised; Onkyo did a major reputation boost by building a super strong receiver for an amazing price, but did not keep up all the way with his subsequent replacements. Time has prooven me right on my accurate instinct from then. They are still excellent receivers, but to keep up with the 805 you now have to look at the 3008 and 5008. Or last year models, from the 1007 and up. ...Or the year before, from the 876 and up. ![]() Last edited by LordoftheRings; 06-03-2010 at 08:50 AM. Reason: Or... |

This is disappointing to me. I wasn't planing on getting one, but it really is a same. They did the same with the the generation before it as well. They keep pushing the line back a step, where the 1008 is more akin to the 807, I guess the 3008 will be the real successor to the 1007.

I'm waiting for the 5009, the true real successor of the 805!
