just found out about this yesterday when I saw a listing at a distributor site. Release date is December 5th, and it will be a MOD release. Not sure if it's pressed, or not.

this isn’t by any means great or even remotely good. but i don’t think it’s as u watchable as people make it out to be.

star wars was a huge and unexpected hit that a lot of time to put together. people were looking for more star wars material very quickly. i think they were also setting lucasfilm and the new industrial light and magic at the same time. plus already doing pre-production on empire.

no one is saying it is of the highest caliber. but literally, it’s the only thing that they could have done quickly. and it did give us the first glimpse of boba fett.

i would watch again this over any of the awful disney star wars movies.

You realize this is a documentary. Not the special itself, right?

yes. but i’m going to go out on a real limb here and guess that like virtually all discussion of the holiday special ever, it will be “yeah it’s really bad. it’s so bad. where are the (insert character) stuff we love about star wars?”

It's a documentary on the making of it - not a commentary. Unfortunately, this trailer does a really bad job of showing what it supposedly truly is.

I am curious of the tone they’ll use for the documentary. Could be funny and insightful.

I watched the holiday special when it first aired. I was embarrassed.

(yes, I know the disc is a doc)

The trailer looks like it's going to be a "doc" about variety shows in the '70s and how it relates to SW. That's it?

I know the holiday special is kinda bad. But I would love an official remastered Blu-ray of the holiday special

They'd have to upscale it as it was shot on video, I believe.

They should include The Holiday Special as an Easter Egg

I dunno. I've seen the Holiday Special more times than the Last Jedi.

Just sayin'....

The animated Boba Fett episode in the middle which I presume was shot on film was it's only saving grace. During my DVD bootleg trading days I managed to get a superior copy. The KCCI TV Des Moines, Iowa broadcast

Same here.

Although it will probably never happen anytime soon (if ever at all), I'm still (desperately) waiting for properly restored (& completely unaltered/uncut/uncensored/etc.) Blu-ray or 4K UHD releases of the following titles:
  1. The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
  2. The Ewok Adventure "a.k.a. caravan of courage an ewok adventure" (1984)
  3. Droids (1985)
  4. Ewoks (1985)
  5. Ewoks The Battle For Endor (1985)
  6. Star Wars Clone Wars (2003)
Give me all of these over everything Di$ney has or will ever create and release as their Star Wars. No joke!

Can anybody confirm if this a BD-R? I assume it is because of the logo.

If anyone has the disc in hand, I’d love to know if there are any special features - trying to decide if I pick one up or just grab on VOD
