Thumbs down Bad news the running man Blu-ray confirmed region a locked

HEY ALL

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE LAST WEEK FOR A REVIEW OR ANY NEWS ABOUT THE REGION CODING ON THE RUNNING MAN.

UNFORTUNATLY MY WORST FEARS WERE CONFIRMED.

THE RUNNING MAN IS REGION LOCKED TO REGION A ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING WEBLINK.

http://movietyme.blogspot.com/2010/0...n-blu-ray.html

OH WELL LOOKS AUSTRALIA WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR EITHER A VERSION TO COME OUT HERE OR ITS RELEASED IN THE U.K

WHY WOULD A FILM COMPANY LIKE LIONSGATE PUT REGION CODE ON THE DISC WHEN THEY KNOW FULL AND WELL THIS MOVIE WILL SELL LIKE CRAZY.

CHEERS

AUSSIE

I would recommend buying a cheap region A player, like the Sony BD-S360 for $120. After all, more than 30% of movies are region locked.

Cheers,

Lionsgate always region locks all their releases since the past two years or so. Most of the time when a studio region locks a title, its due to limitations with where they own the rights and where they are allowed to sell it. Another studio which gets a lot of complaints about region locking is Palisades Tartan in the U.K. since they have the rights to Thirst which isn't available in the U.S. on Blu-ray.

Good info there. I have been considering getting a region free player to bypass all of the region locking foolishness. I was going to buy The Dam Busters from Optimum Entertainment, but it is region B locked. Why? Who knows as there are not that many people outside of the UK who would buy it. Chances of a US release...very small.

Australia Damm Region Locked

sorry about typing in big letters before

ive decided if film companies are going to region code a movies i might have to invest in a region a player.

ive read a few forum pages about getting your region b player chipped but don't feel comfortable doing this.

what i would need is one that can have dual voltage switch as we have 240 volts here in Aus.

any suggestions on players that have this and where you could import from. read on amazon site that only ship within the US.

cheers

Well, if your computer is compatible with Blu-ray, you can get an external or internal drive. I bought an external drive for my laptop and I switched it over from region A to B since I got three region B titles.

after reading further it looks as though there is a guy in australia that can modify the machine to playback any blu ray

my player is outside the warranty so it wont matter

Now wait a minute, not all lionsgate blu rays are region locked.I own monster squad and my bloody valentine 1981, and I dont own a region free blu-ray player. They seem to be pretty odd with which titles are locked or not.

I know, but most are. I have 8 Lionsgate Blu's and only two are region all. I would say about 80% of all Lionsgate titles are locked.

Lionsgate just does not have the global footprint the other major studios have, and rarely own the rights to their releases for each territory. That forces them to region-lock almost everything, unfortunately.

I continue to say that region codes on blu ray is its worst own enemy. And the studios don't even realize that those idiots

Wow, did you ever b**ch about Region coding on DVDs? Because 99.9% of all DVDs are Region Locked.

I'll take region coding over these tactics...

- Menus in the country of distribution's language. 99% of all Japanese DVDs and BDs do this: the menu is in Japanese.

- Forced subtitles. French DVDs and BDs do this: Choose the original language and get French subtitles you can't turn off.

- 586i/p formatted extras. Yes, the local distributors do this but without region coding, this would happen on a lot of titles released in Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia.

- 1080/50hz formatted films and extras. Again, some releases are like this but without region coding this would occur a lot more often.

- No extras. Just because they got the approval from the talent for commentaries. interviews, etc. doesn't mean the contract covers all countries.

- One version of the film. Warner is nice enough to provide the same uncut versions in most territories but we may end up with censored versions of films to prevent censorboards from punishing the studios for selling an unauthorized release.

So yeah, complain all you want about region coding. It won't go away and thanks to it we get stuff like Braveheart, Gladiator, and Minority Report on Blu-ray Disc faster.
