walmart and sams club, i believe, are under the same umbrella of ownership. so this might be a sign of things to come?? but then again, i'm wondering if its a regional issue whereby the management of each branch decides what stays and what goes? i dont think so though. i have no experience in retail so what do i know? therefore, i'll shut up. okay. awesome.

i'm just going out on a limb on this one and call FUD even though i support bluray now i have to... i would say they are sold out of their 2nd generation stuff and now waiting on 3rd generation stuff to come in the next couple of weeks... that's really all you have noticed

I just visited the Sam's Club in Springfield, Missouri and forgot to even look at player selection. I hope this is true and if so, Wal-Mart should do the same and it would be huge for the holiday season. Who knows if the Bentonville Sam's Club made the decision before the Paramount defection and it will change now, but we can hope it is a sign of things to come nationwide despite Paramount.

They've popped off the online store front a while ago actually. But, well, that can change quickly with Sams club too.

My local Sam's Club in suburban St. Louis carries Blu-ray only: the Sony S300 player is displayed prominently at an endcap and they have a few BD's in their media section. No HD DVD in sight. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Several smaller local Walmarts do not have HD-DVD sections anymore. And even the bigger ones that do have a section half the size of the Blu-Ray section.

I think Walmart/Sam's is definitely starting to lean in a direction...

These all must be things in the US because up here there is no support for either format in Sams. Costco did have a demo display of the HD DVD players and movies going on though but no bluray stuff and the PS 3 is no longer being sold in our 2 locations of Costco. I am guessing this is a regional thing at best. Our Wally Worlds are also split on support only one store carries any players and the Phillips BR and the older RCA HD DVD player but their selection of movies is very minimal for either.

Walmart is leaning going Blu exclusive. From this post looks like Sams Club will join BJ's in going Blu exclusive.

Has anyone heard from Costco?

This is great news.

Plus, Walmart has already stated that they will not carry the cheap Venturer hddvd player.

See in Blu

I went to my local Walmart yesterday. They have a single endcap for HD movies... the large signage on top is Blu-ray, with three jam-packed rows of BD movies. The HD DVD movies were lower down, almost at the floor with very little signage, and only two rows. The most telling part: the BDs were very messy in the typical wal-mart picked over fashion while the HD DVDs looked untouched...
