China adopts CH-DVD which is HD-DVD compatible

They didnt exactly adopted HD-DVD, but CH-DVD is same technology as HD-DVD.

1 week back or so, there were 2 Chinese companies that adopted Blu-ray. One person said, that is basicly meant that China chose Blu-ray.

so what? the AVS processing chip for CH-DVD doesn't even exist, and needs at least 1 year for mass production.

and btw, BD will still be allowed to be sold in China, CH-DVD is not the only format approved by the Chinese government.

Good points, but I see something like this and it just kind of makes me scratch my head a li'l bit and wonder what the point is.

CH-DVD is not compatible with HD-DVD, it is based on HD-DVD. The assumption is that they can use the same lines with a few adjustments to make cheap HD-DVD players for sale overseas, I'll believe it when I see it.

Is this so-called CH-DVD something new?

I've known about this for a few months now, including the fact that is close to the HD DVD format, but not the same.

The bottom line is, the market needs inexpensive BD players. You need to get the numbers on your side.

Discriminating tastes with big pockets will always buy the higher end equipment, and there will be plenty of that, especially on the Blu-ray side.

The bottom line is... we need inexpensive Chinese Blu-ray players.

I would never buy them, but that's not the point.

check this out, 4 manufactures showed their CH-DVD players at the conference last week, and they all look the same........as the Toshiba A30, what a joke, lol.










some of them forgot to put the sticker on the front to cover "HD DVD" logo, lol



turns out they are all made by Toshiba in Japan, even the demo disc shown during the event is from Toshiba, using HD DVD and VC-1 codec!

Notice the blue display and the positioning it and the drive tray. They are all identical, with a change of front plate (sometimes).

A consortium of Chinese university engineers and globally recognized manufacturers, in cooperation with the China High Definition DVD Industry Association (CHDA) and backed by the Chinese government, have reached an agreement on a standard specification for a blue-laser, hi-def disc, (note: not Blu-ray,) which is based on and fundamentally compatible with HD DVD with only minor adjustments, which will utilize the Advanced Audio Video Encoding Standard in Information Technology (AVS) codec developed by the Chinese government.

note: not blu-ray is 100% wrong..why because if that was true..why did the Chinese GOVT. also BACK the blu-ray format as a STANDARD...? the MEDIA is getting pretty damn slimely..this is scrapeing the bottom of the sludge pit.

and on a standard specfication of blue laser...come on..the FUD is just getting too thick....

i mean look at the responses to the news...when none of them even looked to see if BLU-RAY was not gone and done the same thing..the 97% all of the people who commented on this story just stated THIS is a major blow to BLU-RAY when if they even bothered to look would have found out BLU-RAY had already done the same thing.
