Talking Showtime's "Homeland" starring Claire Danes

Quote:
The thriller, based on Gideon Raff's Israeli series Prisoners of War, was written by former 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, Raff and Alex Gansa. It tells the story of Carrie Anderson (Claire Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Scott Brody (Damian Lewis), a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed deal for nine years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al-Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. Mandy Patinkin plays Saul, a veteran CIA Division Chief who is Carrie’s boss and mentor.

I have no idea why the hell this guy keeps getting work on tv shows after his very problematic past and diva behavior, but whatever, hopefully he doesn't b!tch out and quit this one too.

Mandy Patinkin joins cast
Quote:
Acclaimed actor Mandy Patinkin, whose career has spanned musical theater, film, TV, recordings and the concert stage will return to television for the first time since starring in Criminal Minds in the SHOWTIME® hour-long drama pilot HOMELAND. He will portray a pivotal role in the series as “Saul,” a veteran CIA Division Chief who is Carrie’s (Danes) boss and mentor. A production of FOX 21, the series is loosely based on Gideon Raff’s Israeli television series “Prisoners of War.” The pilot will be executive produced by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa (24, X-Files). Other casting, including the role of Sergeant Scott Brody, will be announced in the coming weeks.

Mandy Patinkin is an acclaimed and award-winning actor of TV, film and theater. On television, he won an Emmy Award (as well as a Golden Globe® nomination) for his performance in Chicago Hope, and also starred in Criminal Minds and in the SHOWTIME original series Dead Like Me. His most noted film roles were in The Princess Bride, Alien Nation, Yentl, Men With Guns, Dick Tracy, and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. On stage, he originated iconic roles such as Georges Seurat in Sunday in the Park with George, Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden Burrs in The Wild Party and his Tony Award winning performance as Che Guevara in Evita. Patinkin continues to tour his one-man show Mandy Patinkin in Concert as well as concerts he has created with artists such as Patti LuPone, Nathan Gunn and Taylor Mac. He also continues as a recording artist on the Nonesuch label.

HOMELAND, which was written by Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa and Gideon Raff, centers on an American soldier taken prisoner during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Left for dead, the soldier miraculously returns to the U.S. after years in captivity. Danes plays Carrie Anderson, a driven CIA officer battling her own psychological demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to his re-capture was a setup and that this national hero may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil.

Sounds interesting. They better get all they can out of Patinkin fast because the guy gets tired of projects quick.

And if you have not seen Danes since Romeo + Juliet, then you definitely need to check out Stardust, great movie.

Hopefully he won't quite this show until awhile after it's been on air. I am happy he quite Criminal Minds as I like Rossie a lot better.

Seriously Patinkin is a complete a**hole from everything I've heard, don't know why they would risk it. The dude won an Emmy and jumped ship from Chicago Hope right after even though it was a big success at the time, not to mention the problems on Criminal Minds. He has a very long history of this, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did it again on this show.

I have no idea how I missed this but one thing I often mention around here is how I wish that Damian Lewis would return to tv, ever since Life was canceled he has been greatly missed. Well apparently a few weeks ago this article slipped right by me and I didn't notice that the always great Damian has signed on for THE leading role. I went from lukewarm to definitely there when this premieres now!

Damian Lewis to star in 'Homeland'
Quote:
Homeland centers on U.S. Marine Sergeant Scott Brody (Damian Lewis), a POW who miraculously returns home after nearly a decade of captivity in Iraq, and Carrie Anderson (Claire Danes), a driven CIA officer who suspects he might be plotting an attack on America. Klattenhoff will play a Marine colonel and Brody's best friend who has become close with his wife Jessica (Laura Fraser) over the years that he has been MIA. The cast of the pilot, which is about to start production, also includes Mandy Patinkin.

Showtime Picks Up 'Homeland' to Series
Quote:
New Showtime entertainment president David Nevins is going 2-for-2 in his first development season at the pay cable networks, picking up both pilots he ordered, drama Homeland and comedy House of Lies, to series. Both have received 12-episode orders and will start production in the summer. Thriller Homeland, from 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, stars Claire Danes, Damian Lewis and Emmy and Mandy Patinkin, while management consulting comedy House of Lies is toplined by Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell. “Homeland and House of Lies are audacious in both their concept and their casting," Nevins said. "They build upon the network’s successful pedigree and expand the definition of what a SHOWTIME series can be.

Homeland, produced by Fox 21, is based on Gideon Raff's Israeli series Prisoners of War. Written by Gordon, Raff and Alex Gansa, it tells the story of Carrie Anderson (Claire Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Scott Brody (Damian Lewis), a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed deal for nine years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. I don't know if they air anything in the summer so it might be open. I believe Californication used to be August but I think it premiered January of this year.

They are filming this summer. It's probably going to premiere this Fall or Winter. Howard Gordon, who is the showrunner for this, also has another project at NBC called REM so he could possibly be doing double duty similar to what Jason Katims did with Friday Night Lights and Parenthood.

This trailer looks damn good. I definitely got memories of Sleeper Cell, during the scene with Lewis standing in front of the White House grinning.

Awesome trailer and got me really excited for this show. Can't wait for Fall and hopefully it's on Sundays with Dexter and Shameless to help with ratings but it's Showtime so as long as it does good it will come back.
