Over the past few weeks, I've been hearing about the rivalry between Family Guy and South Park on different sites (including this one), so I've decided to finish this off once and for all. So basicly, which do you think is better...South Park...or Family Guy? Don't det me wrong, I enjoy both shows, but both seem to be degrading a bit (especially South Park with the Britney episode), but this is up to you and only you.

No contest: South Park.
Love the S.P. Family Guy episode: "This is like the one time I went to Mexico on a date with Gary Coleman." Random pop related jokes all strung together. I take just Leopold Butters on TV for 5 hours verses any Family Guy episodes. Good poll BTW... this should be interesting. Last edited by haushausman; 05-23-2008 at 09:55 PM. |

Well obviously, one is the copy of another. I love both, but overall funny animated series with great story-lines that mean something, my pick has to be The Boondocks. Those episodes have an impact on culture and represent something (well some are just written very well)

Don't ask Kevin Smith what he thinks about Family Guy (from Wikipedia):
Family Guy vs. Clerks Kevin Smith and David Mandel, co-creators and executive producers of Clerks: The Animated Series, have gone on record showing hatred towards Family Guy. In the final episode of their Clerks, they include a scene where a bad comedy writer consults a book entitled How To Write Cartoons by Seth MacFarlane, leading him to suggest the writers send the characters to Gilligan's Island and make gay jokes about them, parodying the heavy usage of pop-culture references and offensive humor on Family Guy. On the DVD commentary to Clerks: The Animated Series, Smith refers to Seth MacFarlane as a nemesis, and Mandel calls the show "Emmy-nominated shit." |

I guess if I have to choose I go with Family Guy, simply because I do not have to pay a cable/sat bill to see it. I am broke and can't afford a satellite.

To me, Family guy tries to be as offensive and boundry-pushing as South Park, and as reverential and witty as The Simpsons, but does neither as well as the aforementioned shows. That, and the fact that FG is one long stream of unrelated, pop culture referencing, flashbacks which, while sometimes are amusing, have nothing to do w/ the actual stories, makes it one of the most overrated waste of times in TV history (brought to you by the same network responsible for THE most overrated wastes of time in TV history, American Idol). South Park FTW.
P.S: For those that will undoubtedly quote ratings, I respond w/ a quote from Penn Jillette; ".......and "Candle In The Wind" by Sir Elton John is the best selling song of all time. Just cuz it's true, don't make it right." |

Both are excellent, though I, too, enjoy watching FG over-and-over without ever getting tired of it.

South Park was intentionally designed to be bad.
Family Guy couldn't even do that correctly. I voted South Park. The jokes are more thought out, and sometimes take an entire episode to pull off, like the Passion of the Jew where it took the entire episode to figure out that Cartman was just using it to fuel his own Jew hate. Funny as hell to see Mel Gibson in that episode as well. Family Guy is just 5 minute long jokes {that suck} like Peter hitting his shin and hugging it on a curb for 5 minutes, I spent the entire time looking at my watch trying to figure out if Seth MacFarlane was actually going to write another joke or just keep this one going on for the entire episode. And Family Guy doesn't even have the balls enough to make fun of Fox as much as the Simpsons do.
Maybe they're afraid of getting shit-canned again? Worst decision ever by FOX was to bring Family Guy back to appease the pot-smoking idiot college students who jerk-off to much while watching Jackass. Distant second is making American Idol. Logan |
