Default Drive Angry 3D Review Thread (Use Spoiler Tags)

Hey,

We have seen the scenario told by Taken (Father goes on a rampage to find his daughter) the question is What Would Happen if the Daughter Dies?

Nicolas Cage answers the question by this:

Quote:
Nicolas Cage has caught the 3D fever and has signed on to star in a revenge action film titled Drive Angry , to be directed by the helmer of My Bloody Valentine 3D.

Patrick Lussier will direct based on a screenplay he co-wrote with his Bloody Valentine writing partner Todd Farmer for Nu Image/Millenium Films. The story is definitely R-Rated, an enraged man who is out for revenge, chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. According to THR, “the vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway.” The film will go into production in April in Shreveport, Louisiana, where Nu Image has a brand new $10 million studio.

Lussier got his start in Hollywood as an editor on Wes Craven horror films like New Nightmare (Nightmare on Elm Street 7), the Scream trilogy, Mimic, and Halloween H20. He made his feature directorial debut with Dracula 2000, and followed up with the series’ two direct-to-video sequels. The interesting part is that he went on to direct My Bloody Valentine 3D, which made some big money for an R-Rated horror film (which some credited to the 3D), and was praised as a fun ride by horror fanatics. And of course, he’s also developing another 3D horror film, called Condition Dead 3D.

Lussier has become a 3D propagandist, once telling the LA Times that the 3-D format is “more than a fad,” and that “you could do My Dinner With Andre in 3-D and it would be incredibly compelling.” Agree with that statement or not (for the record, I do not), I have to admit that I love the fun gimmicky 3D movie every once in a while. Yes, hopefully Hollywood restrains from the practice, but the idea of a revenge action car film in 3D starring the incredibly over-the-top and cheesy Nicolas Cage sounds like it will be more than worth my $10.

Enjoy.

I wouldn't mind, but nick cage needs to stop being an action hero, and try and get some great proformances.

Not afraid to admit I'm a Cage fan. Here's some images that were just released:

Quote:
Considering how crazy the industry is for 3-D product right now, there are surprisingly few people I would call "experts" at shooting in the process at this point.
Patrick Lussier may well be one of the few guys who deserves that title. When he shot "My Bloody Valentine," he did it all as in-camera 3-D. No post-conversion from him. And the same is true of his wild new movie "Drive Angry," which will be roaring into Hall H at Comic-Con 2010 on Friday, July 23, at 11:15 AM. I'll be moderating the panel, so I went to check out the presentation you'll be seeing yesterday over at Summit.
First, it's true. When you go to the Summit offices, you are personally greeted at the door by a shirtless Taylor Lautner, who carries you around piggy-back style the entire time you're there. And I've never actually been to offices where people were blowing their nose with $100 bills, but I guess that's what "Twilight" money does to you. Aside from those little eccentricities, it was a great visit, and I walked away thinking that we're going to see a truly unhinged ride when "Drive Angry" actually hits theater screens on February 11, 2011.
As we were talking about what led him to making the movie, Lussier name-checked two films in particular that I found interesting. First was "High Plains Drifter," and anyone dropping that title gets a smile out of me. Second was "Race With The Devil," and I love that Patrick was obsessed with the poster for that film long before he ever saw the movie. In some ways, his "Drive Angry" is the film you might imagine "Race With The Devil" to be if you just saw the poster and never got around to actually seeing the movie.
Our own Greg Ellwood actually visited the "Drive Angry" set, and you can read his set visit report if you want to know more about it. You can also check out some concept art from the movie that we just published.
Here's the official synopsis from the studio:
In the newest 3D action-adventure from the director of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, DRIVE ANGRY stars Nicolas Cage as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out of hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon.
He's joined by Piper (Amber Heard) – a young, sexy waitress who liberates her ex-boyfriend's cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton. Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult, Jonah King (Billy Burke), who believes it is his destiny to use the baby to unleash hell on earth.
But the bloodthirsty cult is the least of Milton's problems. The police are after him too. And worse, an enigmatic killer known only as "The Accountant" – who has been sent by the Devil to retrieve Milton and deliver him back to hell. With wicked cunning and hypnotic savagery, the Accountant will relentlessly pursue Milton at high speed across the country until his mission is accomplished.
Fueled by high octane and pure rage, Milton must use his anger to go beyond all human limits to avenge his daughter’s murder, before his last chance at redemption is revoked.
U.S. Release via Summit Entertainment, February 11, 2011. Not yet rated.
So here's a good look at "The Accountant," played by the amazing William Fichtner, who will be joining us on the panel on Friday:

And here's a full-sized look at a great still of Nic Cage as Milton, looking a little worse for wear:

Please drop by and check out the panel if you're at Comic-Con, and make sure to find Summit on the convention floor, too, since it sounds like they're trying some fun and crazy stuff at the booth this year.

Amber Heard makes me tingle all over..........

But Nicolas Cage and his rugs definitely do not, lol. This is going to be a wait and give me one hell of a damn good trailer before I can commit. But the idea of Amber racing around in a '69 charger and playing with guns gets my engines going. So I'm definitely leaning towards the hell yes category at the moment.

Comic Con: Drive Angry Footage Description and Video Blog

Quote:
After seeing concept art and a couple of still shots from Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry, I started to wonder if the film might be the sort of action film that few filmmakers seem to get right these days — a dirty, slightly weird, possibly quite violent revenge story. (We see a lot of revenge stories, but few that are acutally decent.)

Today at the San Diego Comic Con, Summit and Lussier showed off a couple minutes of footage, and brought Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard and William Fichtner up on stage to talk about the film. Highlights are after the break.

The footage we were shown was only a couple of weeks out of post-production, but it didn’t appear to be terribly rough. The 3D even looked good — certainly appropriate to the over the top nature of the story — and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t have much interest in the format at all. (Summit is making sure everyone knows that this isn’t a post-conversion 3D job, as the film’s title card currently reads Drive Angry: Shot in 3D.)

The couple of minutes shown were heavy on Nic Cage and the ‘69 Charger he drives throughout the movie. Car stunts, explosions, gunplay — all the stuff you’d expect to see in a kinda grungy ’70s-flavored action movie.

Lussier insists the cars are all real. “No CG cars, it was all metal on metal.” Accordingly, the action looks a little bit dialed-down from the stuff we often see in action films now, where everything is sped up and thrown around with the help of computers. Here you’re going to see a lot of real cars, explosions and a crazy big shotgun that William Fichtner’s character the Accountant, sent to bring Nic Cage back to Hell, calls ‘the Godkiller.’

Think that gun sounds too far gone? This is a movie where the main bad guy tells someone “I am going to kill you and then I am going to defile your corpse.”

Cage said of his character, “It’s no secret that I like characters who raise more questions than answers. He’s still a mystery to me, in many ways. He’s kind of a protector of children.” Don’t worry about that last line too much. Think of this like Ghost Rider with cars and a lot more personality, and you’ll be on the right track.

Lussier said that he wanted to do another 3D film after My Bloody Valentine, and that Drive Angry was conceived in 3D. The core problem was making sure the 3D rigs could be stable while mounted on cars going very fast. From what we saw, it looks like any issues with stabilization were overcome, but I’ll be curious to watch the full feature and see if it really works outside the pretty forgiving climate of Hall H.

Finally, Lussier mentioned the origin of the film’s title. It’s actually based on something Bill Murray says in Groundhog Day: “don’t drive angry.” That phrase stuck, and actually pushed the development of ideas in the movie.

The first teaser looks exactly like what we have grown to expect from Nicolas Cage and movies with titles like Drive Angry, lol.
