Default Watchmen Re-Release - May 10, 2011

I wonder what this will be:

http://www.axelmusic.com/productDetails/883929183869

Also up on Amazon.com.

One could hope it's the Ultimate Cut in a stripped-down single release

it might be the theatrical cut??? with my completionist nature I'd actually buy it since it's the only version of the film I don't own

I really hope so! Without the comics maybe. If this is not the UC then I hope the UC isn't going away!

I hope it's the Ultimate Cut. The big box set version had too many unnecessary features(motion comic) and now its out of print. I've been really wanting to see this cut of the film.

The theatrical cut is available from the UK. It's region free and features a slightly better transfer.

Theres really no reason to ever need to watch the Theatrical Cut with the DC available.

I wouldn't get your hopes up.

The other Watchmen blu out that day (motion comics) is a "Movie Cash" version (probably for Thor).

Warner has been re-releasing a lot of these lately, mostly with no changes other than to the coverart, often with a higher price than the current discounted ones (in the case of watchmen, currently $9.99), and either missing the DVD/Digital copy (if it had one) or including one if it didn't originally have one.

Unless of course you prefer the pace of the theatrical cut, like me.

I just hope it's a better transfer. The current transfer looks really good, however it uses VC-1 which, at this point in Blu-rays life cycle, should be dead, and it features a less than ideal bit rate, so despite it looking great, it could be reference quality, with a better transfer.

AVC codec and bit rate that hovers around the mid to high twenties, but never drops below. The current director's cut goes into the low to mid twenties and goes as low as the teens at 12mbps.

It seems unlikely WB would opt for an AVC codec transfer. This will likely just be a repackage. Bigger question is which version it'll be.

They could at least bump up the bit rate. Anything in the teens is far too low.

If there was ever a film in need of a re-release, it's Watchmen. Yikes...

I love the film and have all 3 versions. And I very much disagree. I watch the theatrical cut more than any of them.

I have never seen the TC or the Ultimate cut just the directors one thats on blu-ray now. Curios to see whats different. May import the Tc from the UK to check it out. I would say this is a movie that would warrent owning two copies of especially since they are different cuts of the film.

The Ultimate Cut is recommended for the biggest fans of the film. Not only is it 3.5 hours long, the inclusion of Tales of the Black Freighter will make little sense to the casual viewer. That said, it's my preferred version of the movie now.

That's probably all this is.

Studios - enough with the reissues. Changing art, cases, adding "movie cash", etc. doesn't do it for me. You have huge catalogs of unreleased films to release, and customers have money ready to spend on them. Now get to it.

Or more than likely for a Warner Bros film Like Sucker Punch
