Default Amazon seems to be favoring HD DVD

The get 2 free movies offer (combined with teh 5 free mail in rebate) is back if you buy a PS3. It is also back if you buy the 360 add on.

The problem is that they also offer 2 free hd dvds + the 5 mail in rebate for stand alone HD DVD players and not Blu-ray stand alones. This seems like its gonna hurt. last time this offer was around the HD DVD stand alone players sold like crazy, even though it was only around for half a day.

Don't worry lad.

That's all the HD-DVD Promotions Group does...give crap away. They really don't generate actual sales (none of the big retailers seem to stock their stuff???). One day soon the well will run dry...and the sun will set on their sorry little format.

wait until toshoba has to start making blu ray players. Their players will be $1,800 to make up for the loss they took selling the hddvd players so low.

LMFAO...you're probably right. They'll say it has to be priced so high because Blu-ray is so expensive. I don't doubt they'll still take a pot shot here and there even after HD DUD is dead and buried.

To the OP, yeah they have to run these kind of promotions to move the product. What other reason could there possibly be for buying an inferior product? Just buy it for an upscaling DVD player and get the equivalent of Superbit DVD's for free.

Not that big of a deal. I am sure that blus will still outsell, or be close to it, HD DVD. Not worried. Although, I do believe that the sky is falling.

Toshiba has much deeper products than I suspected. After all, they pissed away 150 million to get Paramount to go HD-DVD exclusive. They made a killing for years on printers, supplies, and the like. On the grand scale of their business, this only a blip on the radar. But a large blip none-the-less.

They wanted bragging rights for innovating HD Video for the home consumer. Therefore, they are throwing good money after bad and people are running around like scared chickens over there. Why? People know their jobs are on the line for "failing to market this product properly."

You think the suits take the blame for failing? Maybe the one guy in charge of the product will get fired. Funny thing about CEO's who get fired for incompetence, some other company is always willing to snatch them up. America seems to have a sick mental love affair with super star CEO failures.

They favor HD DVD with sales because they can't sell it without sales. Blu-ray doesn't need any help, it's kicking HD DVDs ass all by itself.

what will be telling to Warner is IF the BLU-RAY release sell more copy's even though "the HD DVD RELEASE has the web enabled content " that the pro
HD DVD fans have been touting and at every turn throwing that up over BLU-RAY. and since the HD DVD price will be the same cost as the Blu-Ray.
what happens if still the Blu-Ray lead is 2 to 1 sales copy of this MOVIE over the HD DVD COPY what then... that's even with cheaper player's.

what then....

Amazon doesnt really favor HD-DVD more there just in it for sales. Blu ray sales are doing great so for amazon to make even more money they need to bring up the HD sales as well. More sales overall for amazon if they can bring HD sales up to par with blu-ray. They are helping the weakest link, it makes perfect sence from a marketing viewpoint for them. Thats my take anyway..............

Seriously, think about it. Do you think this promotion is Amazon's doing? It isn't. It's the hd-dvd group. Amazon is just in the business of making money selling whatever they can. Don't blame Amazoin for this.
