Default Microsoft and Nintendo need new strategies if they want to catch up to Sony.

Earlier today, Phil Harrison made a press statement that made me realize how far ahead Sony is this generation.

Sony has produced 3.19 million PS3s.
However, Nintendo and Microsoft have each produced zero PS3s.

FACT: The total PS3 productions by Nintendo and Microsoft combined is WAY less than the PS3 productions by Sony.

How will Nintendo and Microsoft ever catch up with Sony on this?

I have no idea, but it was pretty funny.

Perhaps he's saying that Sony does not judge their success by comparing themselves to the competition.
Or that PS3 is the greatest gaming console in history, and no matter how many sales M$ and Nintendo have, they know nothing has been made that can be compared to the PS3.

It's like saying that the only true gaming console is the PS3. M$ and Nintendo have made nice "toys", but they're not in the same class with Sony.

lol, i was expecting something different when i entered this post. Anyways, the recent analyst has said by 2012 the PS3 and wii will dominate the market leaving the 360 behind in their dust. I think this is good knews, im happy with a Playstation/Nintendo coesistence since they produce completely different games whereas PS and xbox produce basically the same stuff and are constantly at each others throats.
My number predictions.
PS3:80mil - 90mil
Wii:70-80mil
360:20-35mil
besides the 360 only has a 5 year lifespan MAX so in 2012 they'll have 720, and maybe a new nintendo, playstation will come out with a new one in 2011

Default Re:

The Wii is a brilliant gaming system for one reason: Learning curve. It doesn't even make sense to me to compare the Wii to anything else that's out there. Nothing else is even remotely like it.

You don't have to be a genius to realize that Nintendo didn't even bother trying to say, "how do we steal the PS3's market share?". Instead, they went after designing a gaming system that would appeal to the market share that's totally uninterested in PS3s and Xbox. I bet they figured, "Hey - if we get some of them too, then that's just gravy...but let's not try and outdo the PS3, that's a losing battle and unnecessary to achieve success."

Proof of this is in a whole "new" generation of gamers who were uninterested in gaming before the Wii debuted. The 15-34 y/o male age group, who remains very dedicated to the PS3 and Xbox gaming platforms, isn't where it's at...but rather, it's at the "everyone else not in this demographic" who loooooooves the Wii.

There is no sense debating "true games" vs. "home gaming crap", etc., etc., etc. That's all open for debate and is simply a matter of opinion. But what cannot be denied is that the Wii is fantastically simple, easy to catch on to, and offers something for just about anyone who's something remotely near interested.

I'm not downing the PS3 at all, and it's probably been the biggest player in the upsurge of Blu-Ray popularity since its release. It's a fine gaming system, has better graphics, more power, yada yada yada. But I, personally, would rather PLAY my old-school NES (which, loveably, I can do on my Wii) and my Wii any day. Naturally, I'm glad I've got a stand-alone Blu-Ray player to watch the kickinest high-def DVDs around.

;-)

~J~

PS - I'll reason a bet that when the PS4 gaming system comes out in a few years you will see playability, or at least the option or "design-in capability" or upgradeability very similar to that of the Wii.
