It may be, but so what? Toshiba is better at producing chips so Sony could get it cheaper, and it would not impact Sony getting the chips for the PS3. Also I believe Sony would still get royalties on the chip production.

Sony, Toshiba and IBM all developed the Cell chip TOGETHER.
