Hmmmm...

I've got the region-free Australian Blu-ray of Lifeboat that shares the same transfer and extras as the UK Masters of Cinema disc.

If the transfer is improved, and, if the new audio commentaries are worthwhile, however, then I'll double-dip for this Kino edition.

I think it is safe to say that the Tim Lucas commentary will be great. The guy has a way of making you feel like you just took a master class on the film and filmmakers. Check out some of his other commentaries or writing to get a feel for what you'd be in for.

Just got the AUS release last week.

Kino doesn't seem to be the kind of company that actually does any restoration work on their own. I'm guessing I'll be fine with my copy, but we shall see.

I just realized the other day the Rebecca, Notorious and Spellbound discs are out of print. I wonder why.

Perhaps Criterion/Janus acquired the rights to those to get them back?

I thought the same thing. I'd double dip on Rebecca for sure. Lots of special features on my criterion DVD set that are lacking on the blue release.

And chances are I'd dip again on the others too. Have the criterion DVDs also in addition to the OOP blu

I have the excellent UK Steelbook, but great to finally see this get a stateside release. Very nice that it has two commentary tracks too.

Will it include Hitchcock's 2 short films?
If not I think I'll stick with the Australian release.

Doesn't look like it. I had hoped Criterion would get this title, since they have done other Fox titles, and that they would get the two propaganda shorts. If they don't end up on Lifeboat here, chances are they'll never receive a US release, sadly.

I have the MOC release, which has them, but was hoping for a US release too.

More Hitchcock on blu ray is always a cause for celebration. Here's hoping Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Stage Fright, and Under Capricorn also get released on blu ray!

I wonder who even controls Under Capricorn in the US anymore. It hasn't been available here for about 10 years, since the 2003 Image DVD release went OOP. That release isn't even listed at Amazon anymore, they only list the Korean import DVD.
