Default Harmony 890 /880 help.....PS3

How do I teach the Harmony 890 (or 880, same thing)to do the functions of this IR PS3 blu-ray remote. (Blu Wave)

I do believe that you are SOL on this one. If you call logitech ask for the level 2 techs. But I think that the PS3 remote uses a different IR frequency for lack of a better term. I do not believe that the harmonys will operate the PS3.

If it's an IR PS3 remote, you do it the same as most every other IR remote.

Now, if it's the Sony Offical PS3 remote, then it's actually a bluetooth remote, which means you're out of luck [as explained if you try to just manually add the device in your harmony software].

There is no hope for a firmware upgrade to resolve this situation either, as the remotes just aren't designed to do Bluetooth.

If it is an IR remote, well, ya gotta tell us which IR remote and usb plug ya using at least .

[ clarity ]
and I look like an idiot, really didn't see the link.

Just as you would do with any other IR remote. I'll be surprised if it isn't in Logitech's database yet, but if it's not, then just do the IR to IR thing. Then just plug in the receiver in one of the USB ports on your PS3.

I'm checking on remotecentral.com. They have a forum supporting many remotes including the Harmony. Some posters I see are using the Nyko IR remotes and have successfully programmed the Harmony but they have had to do it manually and also had to tweak repeat times to improve performance.

Click me is an example of one of the threads.

I use a different remote so I can't help you with the Harmony software. There has to be someone on these forums that can assist there.

*sigh* The Nyko remote comes with a USB connected IR receiver. Click the link.

I just set up my Nyko IR Blu Wave remote to work with the Harmony 880.

I had to set it up and then fine tune it several times, but now it's working fairly well...

The Harmony 880 will set up the PS3 buttons, if you add the device. You'll have to "reprogram" the buttons using the Nyko remote and once you are done and fine tuned, you can place the Nyko where it belongs, in a drawer...

The USB IR dongle will have to be left in the PS3 and there is no Power ON or OFF from the remote.

I also have the Sony BD bluetooth remote and it's nice... it works so smoothly, it's amazing... but it's another remote.

Overall, I'm happy using only the Harmony 880... keeps things tidy...

Default No PS3 because of this

This is the reason I'm not buying a PS3. I'm waiting for the standalone players to come down in price more so I can watch Blu-Ray using my Harmony Remote.

You most definitely can use a harmony remote, but you need to buy an aftermarket IR remote for the PS3, and then manually program the Harmony with the remote codes from the IR remote. It's a bit of a pain, but most functionality works fine.

FYI - The blu-wave is on the Logitech software.

Select DVD player, MFG = Nyko, Model = 83040

you have to tweak the keys a little bit, but works well
