Default The Samsung BD-C8000 Portable BLU-RAY player (list $499.99, mail order around $392)

From a reliable source I have learned that Samsung will be releasing a portable Blu-ray player in the United States soon. The Samsung BD-C8000 has a 10.1 inch LCD screen with 1GB built in for full BD-LIVE (profile 2.0). This Samsung BD-C8000 will have a suggested list price of $499.99. Some mail order companies plan on selling this portable player for around $392 once large quantities of the player become available. It sounds like the 10.1 inch LCD screen will be true 1080P but I need to see more details to know for sure.

Some more details below

" Blu-ray Portable 10.1" LCD, 3hrs battery WiFi Built-in Internet@TV BD-Live (Profile 2.0), 1GB local storage [Picture Quality] Full HD 1080p Full HD DVD Up scaling [Sound] Dolby True-HD, Dolby Digital + dts HD 2Ch Analog out [Media Solution] MP3, JPEG, DivX, MKV, HD JPEG, [Connectivity & Additional Feature ] 1 HDMI, 1 USB Ethernet Allshare"

Following Update added in red:
The built in LCD screen according to the manual is only slightly better quality then DVD quality since the pixel resolution is only (1024 X 600).

I got this Samsung model and it's a winner. It's 3-D (although the display isn't - which is a little weird) and the wi-fi is easy to setup.

I'm really happy with this portable player.

I got this for my birthday and it is great! Wi-fi and Netflix is awesome, the apps are cool and have potential but the meat of this player is a guarantee that I can enjoy Blu-ray anywhere on the unit's screen or on SD or HDTVs, and DVDs too even though it can have difficulty reading DVDs now and then but that occurs rarely and I did buy this for Blu! It is an awesome machine and I though haven't begin to test it's usb capabilities with my TB hard drive yet, it can do so much!!!!

Make sure you have the latest firmware update installed for the most reliable operation.

If they are store bought DVD’s you are having trouble with then that should not be occurring. If it’s like 1 or 2 DVD’s out of 100 that is something that you could experience on another DVD player or Blu-ray player sometimes. Sometimes firmware updates can fix DVD problems.
Regarding the audio dropouts over HDMI. If the audio dropouts are only happing on certain Blu-ray titles then a software update might be needed. If all Blu-ray titles have a problem with audio dropouts then it is another issue. If you have a standalone Blu-ray player connect it up using the same cable to the display or A/V receiver to see if you are still getting the audio dropouts. If the audio dropouts do not occur with the other Blu-ray player then there could be a problem with your portable Samsung Blu-ray player. The problem could be something simple like a firmware update needs to be downloaded or it could be an audio menu setting. Also try connecting the portable Samsung Blu-ray player up directly to another TV or A/V receiver with HDMI. It could be a HDMI incompatibility issue with the TV or A/V receiver when using HDMI.

Another possibility is that your Samsung portable Blu-ray player laser mechanism is out of aligned or needs cleaned. It may need to be factory serviced or returned to the store.

Man, it has been a while since I posted. I will talk to amazon to try to get a replacement because the DVD problem is persisting. As for the audio drop outs, I think that is only on one TV but I will keep checking. Thanks for the suggestions. I think it is up to date but I will check to see if a firmware update is available.

I seem to have isolated dropouts to one TV/Cable. The DVD problem has, however, persisted. Warner discs and some Disney discs (again all are DVDs, not BDs, BDs read fine) have the most trouble. For example, a disc of Batman Beyond brand new practically right out of the package into the player didn't work. In every player, standalone, combo, computer and portable I have, it played fine. Mostly, the opening FBI logo will play and then "DADADADADADADADA-WAAAAAH WAAAAAH-DADADADADADADA" happens and in most cases the player reverts to its home screen. Some times, when selecting certain episodes or bonus features on a disc leads to the same problem, while playing the main movie or doing play all for episodes doesn't. Again, Warner discs (especially animated ones) have the problem, and brand new out of the package (for example) Pokemon and Batman Beyond as well as S:TAS have this problem. Some discs that have never been played have the problem. DVD-Rs recorded in my Panasonic recorder work great. Most of these DVDs don't even have a scratch, while some have one or two, (I am veeery careful with my discs, most of these scratches are too insignificant to mention and don't hinder playback in any other machine I own). Any ideas would be appreciated and yes, I have the latest firmware.

I am guessing it is too late to return it and get a Sony or Panasonic portable Blu-ray player. You have two lasers: one that reads DVD’s and the other that reads Blu-rays. It sounds like the laser for reading DVD’s is either dirty or out of alignment. Most likely out of alignment. If it was me and it was under warranty I would send the player in to be serviced. I am sorry you are having problems with your portable Blu-ray player.

Yeah. If I returned it I would just want another one of these because the Wi-Fi and connections to both hd and sd TVs are features exclusive to this device (in one package, I mean). Maybe I'll ask Amazon about an exchange, they are usually really helpful.
