Default EA's Skate or Tony Hawk's Proving Ground

I realize that this will cater to a small audience, but its worth the question. I have now played through both demos, and I am actually thinking of going with Skate. It is different. I mean, how many times can they redo Tony Hawk, adding very little other than graphics. I think it might even be worse than what you can say about Madden, because at least they update players. I find the controls for Skate to be....interesting....but after playing it for about 10 mins I became used to them. What do you guys think?

although the Skate controls were tough for me to get used to as i've been playing the Tony Hawk series since the N64 days but I actually prefered Skate, sure i'm used to the Tony Hawk games already and there were some nice new features but still its good to see a new take on skate boarding and the graphics in my opinion were better.

I would say rent them. IMO I have always loved tony hawk, but to me the graphics look worse then project 8, I really liked project 8. I don't know though, I hear skate can be pretty frustrating. I will be going with tony hawk.

I Jus downloaded the demo yesterday and Skate was absolutely amazing compared to Tony hawks. Tony hawks looks and feels horrible IMO. so ill agree with JonD, i never even thought id be into skating/skateboarding especially on a game..but "skate." from EA does wonders. Plus the controls really arent that bad at all.

Skate is really great! The controls are easy IMO. its more of a simulation than a arcadish game. I will probably get both, but will play skate more than Proving Ground

I downloaded both demos.. Tony Hawk I had to delete after 3 minutes of playing.. Skate I've played hours of. Skate is way better IMO.. though I really didn't play much of Tony Hawk.

I was excited to get the demo for Tony Hawk, and was immediately let down. The graphics have little to no improvements. The environement was incredibly boring. A total let down.

Going to try Skate tonight.

I'm not a skateboarding person/fan, but I'm going to at least rent Skate. It's fun.

The last skate game I really got into was in the late 80's. It was called 720: Skate or Die (I think).

I fiddled with Tony Hawk on the Dreamcast, but not too much.

Skate's demo is fun. I've played the 360 and PS3 version and both are good. The PS3 has slightly better graphics. And, might be me, but the controls seems a little more responsive (worked better).

I tried the TH demo and was bored in under 10 seconds flat.

Skate is first skateboarding game i have ever actually enjoyed!

Tony hawks just seems childish now and they are moving away from pure skating now

i played the demos for both and they both sucked they both want me to go back to the old Tony Hawk games when it used to be called Tony Hawk's Pro Skater so i immediately deleted both demos from my hard drive as soon as they were done

I haven't played either but from what I have seen Skate seems to be the more in touch with real skating game. Tony Hawk seems he is purely catering to little kids these days. I watched the footage from Skate and it felt like I was watching one of my old skating videos.

I've never played more than a Tony Hawks demo on PS2 way back, so I came to this fresh.

My impressions, Tony Hawks was absolutely awful, 5/10 at best.

Skate was intuitive and great fun 8/10.

I'd chose skate, because it is like choosing between Gran Turismo and Need for Speed. I prefer reality over arcade-ish.

Played both demos and have found Skate to be my favorite.

The controls on Skate take a bit to get used to after playing TH for so long, but much better once you get used to them. Even after playing though the demo three times I still wanted to press the jump button
