Similar to my Lovecraftian Movies on Blu-ray thread, I wanted a place to regroup most movies that fall in the Steampunk, Teslapunk & Dieselpunk genres. As a disclaimer, I've included movies that might only have a tiny element of Steampunk or Dieselpunk in them, like Back to the Future Part III for the Steam-powered time-machine train or Army of Darkness for the modified Oldsmobile. Also, some movies, like the Mad Max series is clearly set in a post-apocalyptic time and far from the defined Dieselpunk era, but because of the technology used, I decided that they could fit anyway.
The list first shows the USA/Canada Blu-rays releases, then a selection of releases available internationally, including the Region Free, Region A (Japan) and Region B. If you click on the Blu-ray cover, it will redirect you to the Blu-ray page. The lists are still in construction! Please add your suggestions below! ![]() Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century's British Victorian era (1837–1901) or American "Wild West" (1783–1912), in a future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not Region A or Not Yet Available on Blu-ray ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Teslapunk, named for scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla, refers to fictional narratives or visual styles inspired by 18th, 19th, and early 20th century pioneers of electricity and electrical devices. This style commonly imagines an alternate history where widely available cheap (or free), clean, and often highly portable electrical energy replaces all previous energy sources (such as wood, coal and oil, and the steam engines that were fueled by them), but has yet to be replaced (or is never replaced) by other energy sources itself (such as diesel or atomic power). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dieselpunk is a genre similar to steampunk that combines the aesthetics of the diesel-based technology of the interwar (1918-1939) period through to the 1950s with retro-futuristic technology and postmodern sensibilities. Dieselpunk movies combines the tropes, character archetypes, and settings of diesel era fiction genres such as Serial Adventure, Noir, Pulp, and War with postmodern storytelling techniques and cinematography. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Morsoth; 05-01-2020 at 02:36 PM. |
