Default Smallville High Definition Quality

Dont know why the other thread was closed, but I know for a fact that the HD DVD version also doesnt look so great...and, here is a funny note...The HD DVD edition of Smallville Season 6 also had a Blu Ray insert inside the front cover that states "This Blu Ray disc is manufactured to the highest quality..."

Default Size Matters

Just got my Smallville Season 6 Blu set yesterday and was surprised to see, er, well, how much *smaller* it is than the boxes for the previous five regular DVD seasons. Even the other two Blu disks I've gotten so far, Ultraviolet and Chronos, are also slightly smaller overall than regular DVD boxes. I suppose one could make the claim that Blu movie packaging is less so that, environmentally, it's more earth-friendly. Consequently, they also require less shelf space to store.

It looks better than half my Blu-ray discs. But I guess no high definition enthusiasts today likes pictures sharply focused and prefers things smoothed out looking as smooth as a melted ice cream after years of watching movies downconverted to 1/6th the grain and size on VHSes and DVDs on 20"-30" displays from 10 feet away or in the last rows of a multiplex, INSTEAD of on a real movie theater's giant screen. It's the next generation. Downconvert Smallville to 480 with the PS3 and have your TV upscale that. You'll be very pleased with the newfound baby smoothness of the image.

I take it these are your first purchases ... I like the hard cases as opposed to the previous 5 season's cardboard shitboxes

I would say its good for vc-1. I have become a vc-1 hater after seeing the problems with the dark scenes. it looks good, I just wished it had uncompressed audio or a better encode. but it was worth the $50. Lois lane looks very nice.

that's alliteration for you english buffs.

I have only watched the last disc thought. so we'll see how the rest looks.

Yep. Smallville is my first TV series Blu purchase, and Chronos and Ultraviolet are my first Blu movie purchases. I guess I never really picked up any Blu DVDs before. But I'm certainly not complaining. It's nice that they are more compact in size. That's become my biggest issue since I have been converting to DVD several years ago and now to Blu the past month or two. Where to store all these disks?

If you hate VC-1, have you seen Deja Vu?
