Why have MGM done away with menus?

I just got the new Some Like It Hot BD and was disconcerted to find that there is no main menu on the disc. The film just starts playing automatically after all the initial disclaimer screens etc. When it's finished, it just starts playing again since it has no menu to display! If you want to watch one of the extras, you have to bring up the pop-up menu and select the item there - meanwhile the film itself continues playing until an item has been selected. When an extra item has finished, it then continues playing the film while the pop-up menu is displayed again.

I gather this seems to be the new "policy" at MGM as they have done the same thing on other recent releases. This seems utter madness to me. Exactly what was wrong with having a normal menu screen?!
