Default BD Disk shows up in Windows as "Not Formatted"

We are using a Sony BDW-100A drive, and cannot read BD-ROM disks (Retail Movie). The error that comes up is "Disk is not formatted - Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows." The PC is running XP, SP2. Is there a special driver that is needed? I have tried this on 3 different PCs and with both this drive and a Panasonic UJ-215 Slimline. Any clues? Thanks.

What player software are you using to try and play the movie?

InterVideo WinDVD 8 HD/BD or PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 is needed to playback Blu-ray Disc movies

We weren't aware that a specific player software is needed to "see" a BD-ROM. We are developing a system that will transfer data files from Blu-ray media, not play a movie. Will this same software show files on the disk? It also appears that the BD-R and BD-RE Blu-ray media comes unformatted, and must have a format burned onto it using NERO 7, or similar burner software. Is that true? Thanks.

Have you installed whatever software came with the burner? Even with a fairly new DVD burner (external device with more than the usual burner capabilities), I recently had to install the software that came with it before it was properly recognized. It appears it must have installed updated drivers/info.
