They announce they're "neutral" suddenly when they're losing?.they clearly supported hd dvd, suddenly they're neutral?.Next thing they'le say they kinda support bluray, and before you know it they bash the dead format.

Is this the same Gates that said that Blu-ray is 'anti-consumer' and that it couldn't work properly on people's PCs?

HDD interview with Amir Majidimehr, January 2007
Quote:
As it became clearer and clearer that the studios and manufacturers might be splitting into two separate next-gen camps, why did Microsoft decide to side with HD DVD over Blu-ray?

Amir Majidimehr: For a while, we were neutral. Both of the formats had been testing with our codec technology. But for us, there were two technologies in particular we cared about for a next-gen format: interactivity, and content security. In terms of interactivity, Blu-ray looked for a while as if they were going to adopt the same technology as HD DVD, which is called HDi. And on security, it looked like Blu-ray was also going to use the same encryption technology, which is AACS.

Unfortunately, in both of those areas Blu-ray deviated from those plans. Which meant that if we wanted to support Blu-ray, we had to implement two completely different authoring systems to support both. And that, combined with the manufacturing issues we saw with Blu-ray versus HD DVD, pushed us over the edge to side with HD DVD. This was about, a little over a year ago.

The software mogul responded: "The last studio announcement was Paramount going exclusively to HD DVD so there's been some back and forth...You have to think of what we are doing with our HD interactive software as being actually neutral to any of these platforms."
There's been some back (Paramount)and FORTH (Warner).

And this is the second time Gates has mentioned HDi running on Blu-ray. Is he misinformed?

same mentality as the xbox 1, and by 2010 its gonna be the same metality they take with the xbox 360. they are losing horribly in japan and europe to the ps3, and are getting absoltly crushed by the wii all over. it is going to come in third place. ps3 has outsold it every week now for the past month.

If they really didnt see our hi def media as a threat to their cute little 'download' system, they'd just drop HDDVD support and be done with it.

C'Mon Bill, why not let us have our Blu-ray? Everyone will be downloading in the future anyway, so why not let us dummies waste our money on our Blu-ray format that will fail anyway?

Like I've said before, I've never bought a XBox of any type and I never will. With that out of the way, it is no surprise Gates makes a statement about being 'Neutral', traditionally Microsux has always hedged their bets. So far it seems to have worked out for them.

Toshiba needs to realize that HD DUD is a lost cause. M$ is abandoning and could care less about the losing format.

MS clearly knows that there are more Blu announcements right around the corner...

they might as well try to cash in since they have to get their greedy little hands into everything...

LOL! When Steve Jobs speaks about music downloads do you think he feels compelled to mention the mighty ZUNE?!?

PS - so compelled, in fact, that he mentions it before his own product.

Microsoft and the Blu-ray Association had a staring contest -- Microsoft blinked first! MS is throwing HD-DVD aside like a cheap ***** that it used.
