Moderator note: Cane Toads: The Conquest was released on 3D Blu-ray in Australia, the UK and Russia. The Australian disc is Region B locked but the UK disc is REGION FREE.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Original post: I've been looking forward to seeing this film for a long time. It had been delayed and just arrived from amazon.co.uk - - - It looks like an all region disc. I tested it on a USA Region A PS3 & a European Region B Sony BDP S-780 Blu-ray player: Here is the trailer: Quote: Mark Lewis (Cane Toads: An Unnatural History) explores one of Australia s greatest environmental catastrophes as he follows the unstoppable march of the cane toad across the Australian continent. Despised by many, venerated by some, the toad has occupied a nation s consciousness achieving both cult and criminal status. Despite its international origin the cane toad has become uniquely Australian yet, for a world wrestling with the idea that we have irretrievably altered our own ecosystem, its story holds universal relevance. Featuring a host of engaging characters as well as thousands of toads, Cane Toads 3D - The Conquest is a humorous yet thought-provoking journey into the issue of invasive species. I haven't watched it yet - but this weekend for sure! Last edited by the13thman; 01-25-2022 at 08:53 AM. |

I remember seeing a documentary about frogs/toads "invading" man's territory, and chirping loudly throughout the entire night while the people tried to sleep. They would attack the toads harshly whenever they found them.
I like frogs/toads. I'd be very interested in this if it's released to the US at a fair price. $19.99 for example. How long is the show again? |

Been unsure about this one, so I haven't given it a blind buy. But I have a rental in my queue from Quikflix. Bet I'll enjoy it and wish I'd bought it... |

I watched this last night and absolutely enjoyed it. STRONG 3-D, educational, and absolutely hilarious.

So I imported the UK Blu-ray into the US, popped it into my Xbox One S, and it played fine. So maybe the UK one is region-free?
I did notice my copy doesn't have any age rating labels on the front cover, and on the back it has an E for "exempt from classification." The EAN is the same, but maybe two different pressings were made? The disc itself has the E on it as well, and what looks like a catalog number of KAL8142, and has a copyright notice of 2012. |

If anyone can confirm if the Australian edition is region locked or not, that would be helpful. |

I had a friend over last night and we watched The Meg. We both found it had good 3D without much else to praise, though I was amused Jason Statham's character passed over his ex-wife to romance the Chinese single mother instead. The night was still young so I dared my guest to blind-watch Cane Toads: The Conquest, which I picked up months ago and had not watched yet. Guys, Cane Toads: The Conquest is one of the best 3D films I've ever seen. It's the kind of movie that broadens your definition of what a movie can be. It works as an informative documentary, an absurdist comedy, and a disaster thriller with constantly rising stakes. It has everything to say about mankind's effect on nature as the more recent Don't Look Up does, with no hint of smarminess and far more effective comedy. Both my guest and I agreed we would have enjoyed it even in 2D, yet the 3D is among the strongest and most effective I've ever seen. It's not just 3D spectacle, it's 3D that serves its story and subject. This format puts you as up close and personal with these ridiculous creatures as the average Eastern Australian now is on a daily basis. But if you want 3D spectacle as well, it's here in spades. The film takes you on an 85 minute trip to Australia, where even the sand beneath your feet extends out of the screen. The film begins with a giant Cane Toad pop-out, followed by hypnotic macro-photography of tadpoles spawning amidst thousands of water particles floating in their own individual planes, macabre dioramas of stuffed toads in elaborate sets, and a dog who is addicted to licking toads to get high. I never knew how badly I needed to see a dog have an extended acid trip in 3D until Cane Toads: The Conquest came to the rescue. Last edited by osmos512; 01-25-2022 at 02:43 AM. |
