Default Why Do Digital Copies Expire.

I understand only being able to use the code one time. But if I pay extra for a specific version to have the DC included and for instance I do not have an Ipod at the time, why as a consumer am I punished for that. If I purchase an Ipod/Ipad or other device later on down the road I can no longer use the DC as it has expired even though I have purchased it.

It's simple marketing. The same way companies offer mail in rebates to make the deal seem sweeter, knowing that many consumers are lazy and forgetful and will never redeem them.

You buy it at the higher price thinking having it in three or two formats is a sweet deal and like many people will forget to redeem the code and when the time comes to use it, it's expired and now they can get you to buy a digital copy at Amazon or iTunes.

The expiration date is so it doesn't cut into the digital sales they release seperately outside of the Blu ray bundles. This also makes the ebay sale of the digital copy only last for so long.

Another question. Why do digital copies don't work on the World Wide Web when you are European and bought a US disc.
I've the disc AND the code and I don't need to download the file. So why can't people outside the US/Canada active the code.
Silly people those Studio companies

Make your own digital copy with the included standard DVD. Just use Handbrake.

Even worse: Buying a multilingual European disc and only being offered a dubbed version of the movie for the digital copy. Useless.

I have never had any iTunes digital copy expire. Not the ones purchased at full price through iTunes, not the ones included with my Blu-ray/DVD purchase, not the ones purchased at promotional pricing through iTunes, and not even the ones provided at free by Apple.

I understand that Windows Media digital copies can expire or be locked out from playing due to the stronger DRM that is applied to them.

As for the "world" wide web thing... simple. The US or Canadian distributor paid the licensing fee to Apple/Microsoft for the rights in the US/Canada. They did not pay for distribution rights world wide which is why the a lot packages say: "Authorized for sale in..." or "For sale in... ONLY."

I believe Kobe24 is referring to the redeeming of digital copies from the codes included with the Blu-ray combo packs (since those usually have an expiration date), not the digital copies themselves.

I hate all digital copies. It also sucks that most studios don't make editions without them at first.

back on topic i've found a lot of expiration dates don't even apply on these things. I've redeemed some that had expired 4 months previously.

I know, they charge you like 5 dollars or so extra just for something most don't even want in the first place.

I guarantee once you try AnyDVD HD from Slysoft that you'll find any other programs inferior. I have used it for years and they have the best customer service along with timely updates.

None of them do, but Slysoft is working on CloneBD, which will be similar to their CloneDVD program.

Where is this extra charge coming from?

The only time there is an "extra" charge is if Warner a single-disc and a combo pack for select retailers. Even then, when these retailers have sales, the price difference is minimal if any.

well that's a whole other discussion LOL. For home use I only use Mac. I'm sure slysoft products are great but it's all about your situation and also what you need.

Personally I love digital copies. For the inflated price of a new bluray/dvd combo they SHOULD give you that extra feature.

I'd still rather pay $5 or so less and just get the BD. Now if I could put the Digital Copy on more than one device then it might be a different story.
