Default Amazon UK improved packaging for steelbooks?

I received a big parcel today and had no idea what it could be, the only thing I had ordered was The Adjustment Bureau steelbook, and amazon usually just posts them in a small cardboard thing with no bubble-wrap or anything to protect it.

I was surprised when I opened it up to find loads of brown paper and the usual amazon cardboard packaging within the large parcel. inside the small package was the steelbook, wrapped in bubble wrap

That's good to know! It's about time too. HMV.UK should do the same too!

10/10:

Amazon.de
Amazon.fr
Amazon.co.uk

I wish Amazon.ca/com does the same now.

Sometimes they do. My last steelbook shipment in October was packed with those bubble bags for added protection

Bit overkill maybe. But good to see a retailer caring more about packaging anyway.

Awesome! I swore to stop buying from Amazon.de but this is definitely encouraging! They finally listened to the customers!

My last 2 steelbooks ordered from Amazon came like that. I was very impressed but thought it was a bit much. At least my steelbooks were in mint condidtion

That's how my Fast and Furious 5 steelbook came. As it was a birthday present from my father, who asked for it to be gift-wrapped, I just assumed that that's how Amazon sent them if you wanted them gifted. But if that's how they all get packed by Amazon now, whether the gift option is chosen or not, then credit where it's due to them.

I'm not sure if this box packagaing is actually standard though. I've had a couple of orders from amazon come this way in the past (the box and brown paper), and some arrive in the usual bubble mailer.

I feel like it might be random? Or it could be because IndigoStarfish are sometimes involved.

My French Dark Knight/Batman Begins combo came in the standard paper thin cardboard a few days ago. Luckily no dents but there's a huge scratch across the blu banner underneath the plastic wrap.

I got a steelbook from Amazon.de just this last week -- packed simply with thin cardboard wrap around it, and no padding whatsoever. One end of the tin is pinched nearly flat. Not a happy vegemite!

I wrote to them, but made the mistake of saying something that indicated the disc itself was undamaged, so now they say the product isn't defective, and will only offer a refund of 5% of the purchase price. I told them I wasn't looking for money, I want the steelbook, which is the reason I bought that edition in the first place. They haven't even bothered to reply a second time.

Best customer service on the planet? Pig's eye.

It's always a good idea to order more than two items together from Amazon. That way, they'd be packed in a larger box and usually, they're also put inside a smaller box within the big box.

The only exception to this are amazon.ca and amazon.com, who are cheapskates and only use that stupid big baloon as 'padding'.

Only three months ago I had a 2TB HDD from Amazon.co.uk in a 300mmm square box and when I opened it there was just the drive in it's anti-static bag, no padding - it went straight back without opening it.

Two days later I had a steelbook arrive from the wrapped to the inch of it's life with bubblewrap and cardboard mailers..

All I can say is that from my experience is that is (postage within the UK) it all depends on the packer.

I ordered 5 Akira SBs from AMZ UK a few weeks when it was on sale for 10GBP. They shipped via UPS, arrived 3 days in a very nice packaging. Each small individual boxes contain one SB with lots of bubble wrap around it.

They must've been pre-packed (which is also a factor in what packaging you get from Amazon) - because it looks like all five steelbooks would've fit into one of those small boxes!!

(side note: Akira SB is still only £10.99 on Amazon UK)
