I'm thinking of buying a receiver now that I have all this HD stuff. My old receiver is a Samsung 5 DVD thing, which is 3-4 years old and doesn't recognize discs anymore.
Anyway, I have no clue where to start looking. Are there any decent/good receivers (no DVD player crap needed) out there for say $400ish or less? I don't know what store to browse at or anything. Last time I really was into audio was many moons ago. Thanks |

Sony STR-DG910 ($330)
Onkyo TX-SR605 ($400) Yamaha RX-V661 ($500) These are excellent entry level HDMI receivers...with any of these receivers you can achieve full 1080p video/Lossless Audio (Uncompressed PCM, Dolby TrueHD 'etc' ) |

Thanks. That Sony might be the one to check out.
My viewing room is smaller (speakers in the ceiling too), so I don't need s-loads of power. My Samsung is less of a receiver and more of a toy. Got it at BB years ago. |

This is another good sub $400 option. It has HDMI (upconversion to 720p or 1080i/p pass through like the 605 and other equivalents). The SQ is better than any of the others, but no internal decoding of Dolby True HD and DTS HDMA (which isn't a big problem as most players will come with it sooner or later and most at the moment don't seem to want to output them bitstream anyways).
