Default Good subwoofer, crappy receiver mix good?

Well i got a quick question because i can get a nice polk subwoofer for very cheap here locally but i don't know if i should buy it yet for one reason.

I have a very crummy entry-level pioneer receiver and a mediocre pioneer subwoofer (both came from same HTiB) but i don't know if the Polk subwoofer will sound good coming from that Pioneer receiver. I am a HUGE audio noob so if i can get any suggestions that would be awesome!

And just so you guys know, I do eventually plan on getting a newer receiver but not till later in the summer.

Once again, thanks guys!

-Mario M

the model is Sx-218
here is the manual that came with it if it matters.

I guess the main concern...is your current woofer active or passive? How do you connect it? Speaker wire or analog subwoofer cable?

well it has a powered output for a passive subwoofer but no lfe output, so yes you could connect a subwoofer with speaker level inputs using that output and it would work fine. but i would really recommend just saving the money and getting a better receiver first. I see no sense in upgrading your sub with your current receiver unless it's just too good of a deal to pass up.
