In the new Star Wars bluray release lots of new changes, some of them are good but some of them are bad,but I really like the new CG Yoda in The Phantom Menace,so I thought, there are bunch of old movies I would like to see with new CG characters (replaced) and CG enhancements.
What's on your list? What changes would like to see ? -JAWS : new CG shark -E.T : puppet replaced with CGI -Planet of the Apes (1968) -Indiana Jones movies -Aliens etc.......... (theatrical version on disc 2) ![]() |

When I was a kid, I was really stoked about the "Star Wars" changes, and I've generally been okay with them. Back then, I used to think about bunches of old movies that could benefit from upgraded CGI: probably sci-fi, fantasy, and action movies for the most part, but I also wondered about certain horror movies, war movies, etc.
These days, I'm indifferent, and would rather see most films untouched. Director-approved changes (like the "Blade Runner" final cut, "The Abyss" SE, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," etc) interest me a lot, but to arbitrarily modify things and alter the movie's tone/message/story generally makes for a weaker experience. |

I could go for some serious upgrades to The Wizard of Oz.
Since I don't like musicals, it would be great if they used CGI to remove all the song and dance and instead inserted a bunch of clever, modern, "hollywood-esque" style bantering. They could talk about everything from the weather to the ghoulish stories of the wicked witch. I think they should also remove the wings on the monkeys and give them jetpacks with laser guided missle systems. |

Am I weird for actually liking the old puppetronic Yoda?
Don't get me wrong, I like both I guess. I mean, getting Yoda to do the crazy moves he did in Attack of the Clones would've been near impossible to pull of with the puppet, but there's something about the old Yoda that I loved. I guess because it seemed more tangible. |

There's nothing wrong with the effects in old movies -- they reflect the time they were made, as they should. The only thing "wrong" is movie viewers with so little patience and imagination that they have to be spoon-fed "improvements" for them to be able to able to enjoy those films. |

personally I hate when they add stuff to the movie. I want to see the movie like it was when I first saw it. You are losing the original charm and character the films had in their original state when you try and make it modern by adding extra CG. I'm fine with re-edits and directors cuts, but once you start adding CGI it usually just looks out of place and I don't understand why George Lucas keeps doing it and refusing to put out the theatrical cut. If you want to make changes to your movies, just please also release the theatrical version with it...

I would add that if a Director does 'modify' his/her work post-theatrical-release, he/she should be deservedly shunned in public for tampering with the integrity of his/her original vision. Actors and everyone else involved in the production process should, and will, fear that their contribution to the film could be jeopardized beyong the initial 'final' edit. |

Exactly. Or compare Deep Blue Sea to Jaws. The problem isn't just the CG creature, but also its interaction with the environment. In Jaws the creature moves realistically and interacts with the environment realistically because it's really there. In movies that rely on CGI (Deep Blue Sea or Lake Placid) everything about the creature's motion and interaction with the environment (water in particular) just looks fake, because they have to fake absolutely everything about it. |

The only CGI changes I would like to see are improvements to old CGI. Those couple shots in Jurassic Park with lower quality CGI stand out a bit.
As has been said, so long as the originals are available as well, like with Close Encounters, I am fine with any attempts at improving movies. |

I'd rather they remake a film before ruining it with "improvements".

If a director like Lucas outright owns his films he can do whatever he damn well pleases with them, so goes for companies that own films. I do not like when they do change them, but hey it's their property. What they should do in cases when things are altered, when they hit home video, have both versions in the same set. This way everyone will get whatever version they like best.
Sometimes I think it ruins the charm of the film. Example: In Chitty Chitty Bang Bang you can easily see the outline of the car when it is flying. Now due to CGI they could make the flying car seem more seemless, but that is not how I remember the film and I want to see it exactly the way I remember it, untampered with. Period. |
