Default Who Slipcovered Roger Rabbit?

My local Walmarts have lots of copies with slips... you might want to pick one up and return the Amazon order. Just a thought...

The same thing happened to me from Amazon as well. They are really going downhill lately.

I got my slipless copy from Amazon and intend to stop by Walmart to see if they have any with slips. I'll just return the other to Amazon.

I don't blame people for being upset about getting the movie without a slip cover, but I don't think it's Amazon's fault.

I have a feeling that Disney only included slips on the very first shipments of the movie.

Last week when it came out and Best Buy had it for $16.99, my local Best Buy ran out of stock quickly (I checked the store's stock online). I actually had a pending order with Amazon with free super saver shipping that I had placed with a couple of other movies... the other movies shipped but Roger Rabbit was on backorder.

Then later in the week while it was still on sale for $16.99 (with my Amazon order still on backorder) I checked online and my local Best Buy store had gotten more in stock, so I went there to get it. When I got there, I was disappointed to see that none of the restocked copies had slip covers. I wanted the slip and had seen it at Wal-Mart, so on the way out I grabbed a copy of Best Buy's ad and headed over there. They had plenty of copies with slipcovers. It was the version with the sticker on the front stating that the incorrect DVD was included, but I didn't care since I already have the Vista Series 2-disc DVD set and don't plan to get rid of it. I price matched Best Buy, went home, and gladly canceled the Amazon order figuring that it likely would have ended up coming without a slip had I waited for it to ship.

My guess here is that unlike most of Disney's major animated films which tend to come with slipcovers for a long time (and in some cases the slip never seem to be discontinued while the movie is still in print), they are treating Roger Rabbit only slightly better than releases that didn't get a slip at all like catalog movies such as Hocus Pocus, the Santa Clause films, and the like, and giving it a slip only on the very first batch released.

I could be wrong (maybe other stores are still getting in copies that still have slips and I'm just not aware of it), but so far the evidence seems to point to this.

Disney releases tend to not run out of slipcovers for a long time. I'm not buying that Disney sent them slipless copies. When I was at Best Buy yesterday, all of their copies had slips on them and this was their second shipment (they were sold out late last week). I could be wrong and maybe they did indeed send them slipless copies, but the fact that Best Buy's copies have them on it makes me at least doubt that.

Still, I'm not going through the trouble of driving to another store and then returning it to Amazon. Slightly disappointing, but I don't actually display my movies with the slipcovers on, so I'll get over it.

I know! When I went to Best Buy to get Willow every Disney Blu-ray they had had slips on them. Even the old 2 disc dvd editions had slips.

But as I said, the replenished stock at my local Best Buy didn't have slip covers at all. There was not a single copy with one. And this was on a display with other Disney releases that all have slips (so the store wouldn't have removed them).

It's possible that they still had some copies with slips left over to ship out and your Best Buy happened to get some of them, but future pressings aren't getting them.

Keep in mind that, as I said earlier, while many of Disney's animated titles come with slips and tend to have them around for a long time, many other movies.... often live action Disney catalog titles like Hocus Pocus, or catalog titles from their other studio names like Touch Stone and Hollywood Pictures (a few titles that come to mind are the Father of the Bride and Sister Act movies) didn't get slips at all. And Roger Rabbit is a Touchstone movie and not under the actual Disney banner.

Also they really seemed to under estimate the demand for this title. While I'm sure the $16.99 sale price helped, Best Buy and Amazon both ran out of stock pretty damn quickly. I don't think they shipped as many copies of this out as they do most of their animated classic/diamond edition releases, but it ended up selling just as well if not better than most of them (this is a rough guess on my part).

Another possibility is that they may still be printing and including slip covers, but some batches may have mistakenly gone out without them. I've seen random instances in stores where they will get a batch of some animated title without slipcovers when it originally came with one, only for a later restocking to have the slips again. I think something like this happened at a local Target store that I frequent a while back with Tangled (and this Target store is not known to remove slips or anything like that, so I don't think it was something that they actually did).

My point is that I don't think Amazon went out of their way to remove the slips from the copies that people are receiving. They are likely receiving copies without slips because that is how Amazon received them... and my local Best Buy for that matter.

You could very well be right. I still have doubts, but who knows. In the end, we'll likely never know, and I'm not going to be that worried about it.

One thing is that Amazon didn't run out of stock quickly. They held them back and didn't ship them out last week for the release day because of the DVD screw up. Holding the copies back ends up being pointless if people aren't getting the slipcover that has the "oops" sticker on it and the DVDs are still wrong, but oh well. That again makes me wonder since the vast majority of the copies people that pre-ordered are getting this week should be what people would have originally gotten from the first shipment last week, but whatever.

Judging from the way my copy from Amazon is sealed, I assume they went back to Disney, they trashed the slipcover, replaced the DVD, and then re-sealed and shipped.

None of the copies had slips when my Best Buy had restocked late last week.

They probably didn't even bother changing the disc and resealing the case. Based on KilloWertz post, Amazon probably sent them back to Disney because of the error sticker, and rather than just peeling that sticker off of each cover (which would take longer), they just removed the slip cover entirely, boxed them back up for shipping, and sent them right back to Amazon.

Mine arrived yesterday as well with no slip. I called the 800 number as previously mentioned I ended up with a really nice lady but they said they were out of slips. She was going to see if they could get more in and then she would send one off to me free of charge. So I guess I will wait and see.

It more than likely won't.

I'm on the phone with Disney Studios right now trying to get a replacement Slipcover for my copies of Princess And The Frog (ordered from DMC and got nothing) and WFRR (ordered from Amazon and got nothing).

Just got off the phone with Disney.

She said that they are all out of the Who Framed Roger Rabbit O-Sleeves. However, she put my name down on a list to get a replacement Slipcover for the film. She said that they ordered more and they should be arriving soon and then I will get one immediately free of charge.

I call Disney Studios direct at 1-800-723-4763. When it gives me the option for Technical Support, I click that and then I press the number to speak to a representative.
