Default Panasonic Plasma (TH-50PZ700UD) Question?

Hi I own a Panasonic Plasma (TH-50PZ700UD) and I am wondering if anyone else owns the same tv and what they have their picture settings set as? The reason I ask is because I know Panasonic uses a new Anti-reflective film on this tv which make the screen a bit darker than my 42 inch Panasonic model from last fall. I'm looking to get the best picture possible with out having to pay to have it calibrated. Thanks.

There is no way for you to accomplish anything close to a professional calibration. Search the topic, a professional takes a laptop and connects it to your service port and literally changes how your tv works. Believe me you cannot do this.

Your best bet is to set it to cinema mode.

Did you break it in properly?

Set it to cinema and then order a calibration disc from DVE or Avia.

I just don't have the money to get it professionally calibrated. Thats why I was wondering if anybody out there that didn't have theirs done figured out the best pictures settings in the onscreen menu so I can use them to. I have heard about the do it your self kits like DVE. Do those kits actually work and improve it? I was looking at DVE's website and they have the blu-ray version as coming soon. Why is it for sale on Amazon? Thanks for the help.

I just saw that it was a preorder lol. What do you mean by breaking it in properly?

If it is a Plasma TV, you will have to go thru a break-in period; similiar to a vehicle.

From http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...PRD_CNT_001993

4. What is the "break-in" period and what should I do during the break-in period to minimize any risk of image retention? When your plasma TV is initially installed, the first 100 hours of use is known as the "break-in period." During this time, to minimize any risk of image retention, you should:

- Make sure the plasma TV is in a viewing mode (aspect ratio) that completely fills the screen. The panel is shipped in this condition, in what is called the "Just" mode.
- Turn down the Picture setting (in the Picture menu) to +0.
- Briefly engage the 4:3 mode and confirm the side bars are set to "Mid", or "Bright". This can be adjusted in the Set Up menu.
- Always return the display mode that fills the screen (such as Just, Zoom, Full, or H-FILL).
- Try not to view channels with stationary backgrounds or logos for extended periods of time.
- Avoid extended display of static images (video games, computer images, DVD title screens, etc.).

Set any set to "cinema" mode
Download the free plasma break in DVD
Burn it to DVD
Play it and it will loop for 24 hours
Repeat four times (96 hours)
Your plasma has now been properly broken in

The plasma break in DVD is here - http://www.eaprogramming.com/downloa...nload_main.htm

Although it's on one DVD, it does play for 24 hours.

I'm pleased to announce the availability of the DVD-R version! Many people have requested a DVD-R version of the popular Break-in SVCD due to DVD players that are not capable of playing SVCDs.

This version should be 24 hours in length of the repeating color patterns found in the SVCD. This DVD-R does not have any menus and is a 16:9 authored DVD.

The Break-in DVD-R is available in .iso format (ripped using DVD Decrypter), .nrg Nero Disk Image Format and in the VIDEO_TS folder format.
